I am curious.. if you are an established client with your t. You decide that you need to see you t is the next day or two. Are you able to get an appointment or is your t’s schedule too filled you have to wait longer than a day or two?

Both of the women I hired were semi-retired. So they each only worked 2 days a week. It did not seem like it would be hard to get an appointment if it was on one of the two days they were there. I think I only tried once to add in an appointment.

In an emergency he would get me in pretty quick. He has seen me within a couple hours of contacting him before. It just depends what he’s got going on - he works four jobs so if he has a hole in his sched he’ll accommodate me. If he doesn’t he won’t.

My T said he always makes sure he has "more slots than clients" so he can usually fit me in within a day or two.

Mine can generally get me in within a day or two--he's even gotten me in the same day before. He's said he keeps his schedule more open, which I really appreciate.

With ex-T, it was very rare that she could fit me in, partly because she worked only 3 days a week. She got me in once because she had a slot where she'd planned to do paperwork. Ex-MC also very rarely was able to fit us in--He did once on a Saturday, but I suspect he may have come in just for us (Saw him pull up in his car, then he kept us way over and there was no one in the waiting room when we left.) I know one time I requested an extra time, but he had no openings in the next 3 days and didn't end up having any cancellations.

My T works three days/week and after nearly a decade in the community, his slots are usually full, except if it's one of the weeks that people often take off-- holidays, school closings, etc. He will say that he will put me on the cancellation list and about 3/4 of the time this will result in an appt that same week. I have probably asked for about 4 emergency sessions in the last year, and only recall one where he wasn't able to fit me in. He might have also just stayed later one day on at least one of those requests.

She got me in on the same day once when I really needed to see her. There have been a few other times when I needed to move my appointment on the day of because of last-minute medical things and she was somehow always able to accommodate me by seeing me earlier or later on the same day. I think she must leave openings in her schedule and/or be willing to see me during times she was originally planning to do paperwork. I have the sense that if I really, really needed to see her, she would probably almost always be able to make it happen with 24 hours or so.

T would make time in an emergency even of ot qas not a typical day she worked. Or she would stay an extra hour on a day she was in the office if needed

EMDR I suspect it would be very difficult because she has such limited hours. Even my appointment time isnt I deal for me as I leave work 1 1/2 hours early. Of I wasnt working I suspect she could get me in I'd she were in the office. She is very good about talking on the phone in an emergency. I think she might even be willing to do an emergency telepsych appointment in a true emergency but I dont know for sure

Only once have I had a semi-emergency and asked to see her same day, but she was filled up. My work schedule is not flexible, so it’s very difficult for me to see her on non-therapy days. That being said, if i give her a few day’s notice, she has usually been able to fit me in.

I just used to have my normal two slots- he didn't do emergencies.

I've only asked for an emergency once and she fitted me in the next day but it was her day off. I either didn't know that at the time or was so far gone it didn't impinge. Now I wouldn't ask on her days off as am so much more stable and she allows emails and has called me in crises and I see her 3x a week anyway.

I did not have a standing appointment each week at the same time and wouldn't have wanted that due to my schedule, but I always scheduled several sessions ahead so getting a typical appointment wasn't a problem.

In cases where I needed to get in sooner because I wasn't doing well, I would call and almost always was able to get in either that day or the next. My therapist purposefully left a couple open slots each day for handling those kinds of emergency sessions. On rare occasion I couldn't get in that quickly, and in those cases, all I had to do was ask for a phone call, and he'd get back to me that same day I called which usually filled the gap until I could physically get in.

With former T, the two times I needed an extra or emergency session she was able to fit me in the same week. With new T, her schedule has no flexibility unless someone cancels. She is usually scheduling 3 weeks to 4 weeks out. I haven't tried to get an emergency session with her, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Kit

In a crisis she would fit me in by staying late or something. Probably the same day if I really needed an appointment. That's what she has told me, never needed to try it.

In less than urgent situations I might ask and she sees if she has availability and often she doesn't, but she lets me know if someone cancels. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't asked may times this either, I have sufficient amount of appointments scheduled.
