I wont say I dissociate in session but some topics are harder than others. I start telling myself I dont want to be there etc. Sometimes though I just dont hear anything my therapist is saying about that subject anymore. Like today she started talking about how abusers may say their victims are pretty etc and then I wasn't aware of much of the conversation after that
Then she asked me something about a Daycare worker and I felt kind of lightheaded. Anyway many of you may know the origin of your issues I do not but how do you stay a present in therapy exspecially when you aren't to sure where your issues stem from? |

Take a breath. Take baby steps. Do only as much as makes you feel safe in the moment.

Sometimes when I started to dissociate in therapy my former T would have me look at her and then go through the senses: what do you see, what do you feel, can you feel your feet on the floor, can you feel the pillow on the couch, etc. To sort of ground myself. kit.

I tell my T when this happens. He also knows that it happens a lot for me, so he checks in quite regularly (as in asking every couple of minutes whether I can hear him for example). If I start dissociating, he guides me through stuff to ground me. Sometimes it's breathing, sometimes focusing on something else, different things.
