A while back I posted here about thinking of giving T something as a holiday gift.

I got her a pair of oven mitts, Christmas-themed. It’s simple, but I think she’ll like it. Hopefully. I will give them to her tomorrow, for our last session of the year.

That sounds like a lovely idea! I bet she will love it, especially if she's into cooking.

I ordered my T- three Dr Seuss books: The cat in the hat, Green eggs and ham and how the Grinch stole Christmas. Books are MY thing, but he also has a young daughter so I know they will get read and not left to gather dust on a shelf. He recently thanked me for the last book I gave him for his birthday (Oh the places you will go) and told me that he'd been reading it a lot.

The first two have been dispatched, but it's the third one with the message that hasn't as it's out of stock at the moment!! But I bet he will figure out that it's from me.

That's an excellent idea as well, Lemoncake!! But I don't know T enough to give her a book, though... Perhaps in a few more years? Hope your T gets to read it with her daughter!

I'm so glad I found this post! I've been debating whether it would be ok to give my T a christmas card just to say thank you, but was worried it would be too much? I know, logically, that it's just a card so no big deal, but i can't help wondering if he would be put off by it. I'm glad other people are giving their Ts small gifts and cards!

I just came back from the post office. I mailed my T a 2019 calendar which I was involved in creating. She should get it on Wednesday.

I always give my T a Christmas card! And this year I might add some homemade sweets as well. I wouldn't give something expensive as I think that would be awkward for both of us, but at this time of year I want to let him know that I appreciate all that he does for me.

Three or for times over the years I sent T a card with a gift card to her favorite restaurant. By mailing it I felt it took away the awkwardness for the both of us. After the first one we discussed it at my next appointment. The rest of the times she emailed me a thank you and then said it again at our next appointment

I'm thinking it will be a bit awkward for me to come into her waiting room with the wrapped thing in my hand... but I don't really care, though

I had to mail it to her, because she is out on extended medical leave, and I don't know when I'll see her again. I included a little note with it, wishing her good health now, and in the coming year.

My long time t is Jewish but her birthday is soon. I made her a card and bought her 2 small crystals from a crystal store. Neither of us are into new age stuff but the slips of paper explaining each crystal felt so meaningful. Plus they're pretty. Im hoping she'll like them.

In the past I have had a tower of nuts & dried fruits from "Harry & Davids" mailed to the office. I always keep it anonymous as I do not do well with awkward feelings. It is always a tricky issue when it comes to gifts to therapist. I was telling him about the gifts I was buying my personal training clients and he mentioned that it was unethical to get them gifts. I said no it would be unethical for his profession to buy clients gifts.

I am not getting him a gift.

Just got a text from her cancelling our session because she’s not feeling well. I am a little sad cause I had to leave the house early so I am dragging the thing around. Guess she’s not getting anything after all

Would it be weird to drop the gift off at the clinic for her secretary to give it to her tomorrow? Could really use some advice on this

Personally if it wasn't out of your way,I wouldn't think it was weird at all.Perhaps you could give it to her in your next session?

Thanks! The only problem is that today would be my last session of the year with her. If she can't find me another time this week, I'll only get to see her next year, when the gift wouldn't really make sense, since it's a pair of oven mittens with a Christmassy theme.... I'm so sad. But also worried about her. I didn't ask what was wrong.

I walked by the clinic, and I almost went inside to give it to her secretary.... but I decided not to. Oh well....
