A bit of fun. Some might say all therapy is weird , but some novel types of therapy are legal in some countries. I might like chess therapy ( doubt I'd like nude therapy ). Magic mushroom therapy sounds good. Puppet therapy ? Maybe not. So what kind of weird therapy might you like if you had the opportunity ?

There’s goat yoga, is there goat therapy?

I like goats. More than therapists.

Weird types of therapy

I was looking for " Asshat therapy " as I need it for the idiot who just terminated me , but I got the suggestion for " Unicorn therapy " which could be quite good ~ and apparently does exist ( even if Unicorns don't )

I would like to have a therapist accompany me on all my wilderness backpacking trips. This is the place where I feel the most open and free emotionally, and often think my therapy would be so much more productive in that setting.

I like the entire therapy animal or emotional support animal movement. While not covered by insurance, they also don't charge per hour. Tough to travel with them on an airplane, as evidenced by the person whose therapy squirrel got her kicked off:

Passenger who brought emotional support squirrel on flight speaks out

Same with an airline passenger's emotional support peacock:

United refused to let an emotional support peacock board plane

And a fun blog post with pictures:

10 Weird Emotional Support Animals You Don't See Everyday

I'd be thrilled to find a turkey or a miniature horse with the passenger next to me. I love animals and I think it would make flying more interesting. They probably smell better than some people I've sat next to on planes, too, including my kid, who has puked on my H a couple of times.

There was a type of therapy back in the 60s - I saw a documentary on it - that I always wished I could experience. It was documented in a documentary called "Warrendale" (titled after the facility itself).

I imagine a lot of people would be horrified by the way they did therapy, but I freaking long for it.... I'm a weirdo.

A lot of physical contact and re-parenting between therapists & patients, who were children.

I've seen things such as angel or even fairy therapy! Or sex therapy.
One certified psychologist in my area offers "mask making" as a part of therapy. It's probably that you create a mask and then you discuss what it means to you. He also offers touch therapy where you lie down and you agree where he's going to touch you. He explicitly wrote that he will never touch your genitals or breasts I think I would need this one because I'm extremely uncomfortable with people touching me, If he touched my neck I'd run away screaming in panic perhaps that's an indication that I should try it

I would be into the psychedelic therapies if I were not on a steady resolution to stay away from psychoactive substances unless necessary for a medical reason. Well, I did my own explorations in my youth, even involving a few psychologists but without the fee.

Now my legal version of altered states is virtual reality devices and experiences. I work with some clinicians who are developing VR programs for therapy and have fun testing their tools sometimes.

I could imagine escape room experiences that are psychologically oriented, as a form of group therapy.
Escape Rooms | Breakout.

Lucid dreams and discussing them with a group. I did that also a lot in the past. Those dreams can be better to explore one's unconscious processes than therapy in my experience, but it takes some skill to develop and use.

Can you see that I like alternate realities?

Animals - I volunteered for a while with sea lions in the local zoo. For some reason I was obsessed with sea lions during that time.

I've never done sex therapy, but I think it's a legitimate thing for individuals or couples who struggle. If you are interested in seeing a dramatized version of a sex therapist which is really quite extreme and funny (or maybe not, hard to know), check out a new Netflix series called "Sex Education." One of the characters (Gillian Anderson, who I quite like) is a sex therapist who has her office in her home (!) and her 16 year old son is trying to emulate her at school as a therapist for teenagers with "problems." I've just seen the pilot and while it's not the best show I've ever watched, it was quite entertaining. I think it's set in Britain but I am not sure.

Haha that sounds funny! If I ever get Netflix I'll watch

I always thought Est sounded insane.
I think the sorts of therapy that people report here are just as nuts (as was the therapy I tried). I don't think there is any therapy that is not weird to me. And I think most if not all therapists are complete weirdos.

In college two classmates I knew were sucked into an EST program. It’s more pyramid scheme than actual therapy.

One of the groups my program offers is recreational therapy. One of the activities they do is creating mask. Each client designs the masks that they wear and hide behind
