I don’t really feel like telling her but maybe I should that I’ve never liked wearing women’s shirts and I size out of most men’s big name brand T shirts so I have to shop at stores where the shirts run small. And that means most of shirt shopping is at Hot Topic and Box Lunch. And I do really like the Spongebob shirts. But it does also come down to a size issue. I’m not sure she’ll get it. I mean I like this therapist. But some things I’m not sure of.
She'll probably understand if you explain it to her. Was the Spongebob shirt different from what you usually wear to therapy? Maybe she thought it was more casual or something. Careless dressing (dirty or inappropriate clothing) can be a sign of depression so she might just be checking on that. I know if I showed up to therapy in sweats my T would ask about it, not because he judges my pants but because it's not normal for me.

Yes! After the first session I had to go right to work so it was work clothes (tan jeans, a polo and a sweater). After that I dressed “up” and a little more feminine. Usually nice jeans, shoes I can take off easily (I don’t like wearing shoes in session), then a nice top but something modest and usually a bit oversized so I don’t feel too “seen”.

Here's a link to an article, from PC's archives, that relates to what a person wears to therapy:

I wear the same things that I wear to any public place or to work. Dressy but comfortable. I don't want to overdress and feel stifled, but I don't want to look like I don't care about my appearance either. Even on my days off, I try to go to therapy or other appointments looking put together.

Since I started working at home almost a year ago, I just go in shorts/leggings and a t-shirt. When I worked in the office still, I just went in whatever I'd worn to work usually a skirt/top or a dress.

I do give some thought about what to wear actually, but I don't dress up. Dressing up isn't right for me anyway, I don't have the appearance to carry it off. But for some reason I want my T to appreciate how I dress. She doesn't comment on it apart from one occasion when I was wearing make up after meeting with a friend and she commented that I looked nice.

No. I never cared. Whatever was on top in my dresser drawer. The therapist was very stylish and trendy though.

The first thing she said to me when I walked in was “this is the first time I haven’t seen you in a Spongebob shirt.” Then quickly said it wasn’t a problem. Then we talked about how awful I was feeling from my PMS and she said “I’m surprised your even wearing jeans. Have you tried wearing leggings before?” I’m just going to have to get used to people commenting on what I wear since everyone seems to be doing it not just her.
