So my Psychologist said for insurance purposes she put my diagnosis as adjustment disorder with anxiety but that I have DID. Why didnt see use that for billing purposes? Is it generally not accepted for insurance?

I am not sure I'd it is accepted or not by insurance. Does she think you have both diagnoses?

If she thinks you have both it may be that she doesnt feel the need for both. It may be to protect your privacy since DID Carrie's such a stigma.

My pcp had Mood D/O even though she knew I had major depression for a combination of privacy reasons and because it was when I was first diagnosed and struggled with the idea of MDD.

T had MDD and CPTSD. EMDR T has just PTSD since she only needs to give 1 diagnosis and doesnt feel it is necessary to specify. Since I initially went to her for Emdr, I presume thT is why she just has the PTSD.

My T lists me as major depressive disorder severe for insurance. He also saved a couple journal, email, letters I shared with him. He said it was for proof of diagnosis in case he needs it for insurance. I think they try to use the simplest diagnosis for insurance in the beginning. If they stop covering for that then they will submit proof of a more serious diagnosis in order to contine long term therapy.

I'm just listed as having major depressive disorder by my T for insurance purposes. Though I definitely also have diagnosed (confirmed by T) generalized anxiety disorder. But I think he knows insurance will reimburse for MDD. Meanwhile, my p-doc has like 4 diagnoses on my invoice... So I wouldn't listen to what's on there for insurance purposes. That's to make sure insurance pays for it. It's not necessarily your *true* diagnosis.

I'm pretty sure my PDOC and current T have MDD and GAD as my insurance diagnoses but my real diagnosis is more like Depression with Psychotic Features and GAD and Autism Spectrum disorder with possibly some Dissociative something or other thrown in, as well as PTSD. My GP has depression with psychotic features in my medical records, but then again, she's the one that has to remove the sutures when I SH. My former T didn't bill insurance and even though she said I have PTSD she said if she did bill for insurance she would have put MDD because that's clear as day that I have that. I think they put whatever they need to in order to be reimbursed.

It might be more helpful to actually ask her. But my T used to use adjustment disorder to protect my privacy, until the insurance company required him to use a more serious diagnosis for continued coverage (then it was PTSD).

Adjustment disorder with anxiety is the Dx most Ts use because it is the least potentially harmful in your medical records if anything should come up.

Yes, and if they change the laws about insurance for pre-existing conditions, you're probably not going to want something like DID in your medical history.

it all depends upon what your insurance plan is...

when obama made it law that all americans have health insurance everyone either chose their own insurance plans through the government website, their stare website or they were already on medicaid medicare or their job insurance plans. or other private insurance plans.

state medicaid and medicare pay for different things based on what each state allows
job insurance plans cover different things based on which plans and benefits they offer and you choose.

private insurance plans like blue cross blue shield, united, keiser and others all have more than one plan or package that you choose from that best fits you and your budget, and what you want included.

my DID and any other dissociative disorders including what I was diagnosed with in the past and now are all listed and paid for by my insurance plans.

my suggestion is contact your insurance company and they will tell you whether your insurance pays for what ever treatment plans and diagnosis you are on.
