I chose to watch baseball--which I would rather gnaw off my own arm than watch--just to express how far away I was to therapy as a trial run for life.

I chose Other because I have given up on individual therapy. I wasn't getting much out of it.

I chose What?, as in a sort of horrified because that was my initial reaction...but I'm with FKM on this.

I chose "I didn't mean to when I started but it turned into it and helped". When I first went to therapy the only goal I had was the very broad "I want to feel better". But I suppose that it turned into this and I didn't even realize it so much until now that I'm out and looking back on it. Even with the ups and downs and painful feelings and ruptures blah blah blah, overall, I still believe that therapy was the hardest and best thing I ever did for myself. I'll shut up now because that wasn't part of the poll.

I chose "Yay Baseball is On" even though I'm not particularly a baseball fan, unless the Dodger's or the Angels make it to the world series, then I might take note, only because they are SO. Cal teams. I hired a T initially because there was a sort of intervention going on with my small group at Church (due to my SH) and they took me to someone's house who is a Social Worker and got me to say I would go to therapy if she would find me someone to go to. So she found my former T and I was with her for 10 years, but in no way was it a trial run for life. Therapy is so much different than real life.

No. I hired a therapist because I was having trouble dealing with my actual life. However, I can see that if one is having difficulties in relationships with others, and this is something I struggle with to a degree myself, that getting some feedback from the therapist about how you are in relationships would be helpful. And it that sense, therapy could be seen as a trial run at life (relationships).

My first reaction was “huh?” so I thought about choosing “What?” But then I saw there was an option just for me...baseball!

No. I came to therapy depressed, looking for a way to get my insides to feel on par with my outside decent life. If someone had tried to sell me therapy that way, I’d have hard passed.

It was mentioned in another thread and I was curious to see if it was a common notion

Hate to tell people, but there is no trial run for life; we're in the midst of it each and every day.

Why would you hate to say it here? From this poll at least, it is not a super common thing therapy clients all share.

I voted for Other, and that is to say that I certainly didn't intend it to be a 'trial run' for life...but through the process I am learning to be open about what I need, and ask for that without being cowed by fear.

My inability to ask for what I needed...(my abusers to stop doing what they were doing) is what got me into this mess in the first place.

I also chose baseball as an alternative, which I never watch and don't even understand. It is one of the claims of some Ts that I dislike the most.

Stopdog me.
Indeed the sport was chosen with you in mind.
But it is proving surprisingly popular as in the sense of even baseball is not as terrible of an idea or baffling as that of therapy being a trial run. Which I did not predict.
