It's night time. Unless it's a medical emergency, chances are he'll wait until tomorrow.

I'm assuming it was a medication matter? Pdocs can tend to be "cold" sounding simply because they are dealing with medical matters. Did your problem get figured out?

They tend to be that way over the phone. When my pdoc phoned me it was only about a medical issue. Same if my family doctor has to call me it's very cold sounding. It's there way to get to the point of the phone call and it's so different then in session. Hugs

No, I’ve talked to him on the phone and it wasn’t a medicine question but he was absolutely ice cold.

I’m so hurt today and crying because he has NEVER talked to me like that before.

I adore my psychiatrist. His phone calls are hit or miss. There are times when he's all business, "just the facts, please" and sometimes he's his usual warm and supportive self. I think it depends on how many emergencies he has had to attend to and how many calls he needs to return. It's like holding back the ocean, but try not to take his tone personally. Go by how your relationship is with him over-all. If you want to bring his phone call tone up with him, write a letter about it and share with him at next session. It might make him more mindful for the future when he speaks on the phone with you.

Is your pdoc also your therapist? I can't remember.

Since this wasn't a medical issue, probably he wasn't the person to call. Generally, pdocs really don't deal with therapisty-type issues. They want to be called for medication issues, severe symptoms that probably require a decision about hospitalization, etc., but not for issues that are better suited for your therapist. The only time my pdoc was really available for therapy-type support was on those rare occasions that my therapist was completely unavailable (like on vacation not available) and we had made arrangements prior for pdoc to be his back-up.

Usually, it was talk to the therapist first. If, in talking to my therapist, we decided what ailed me might require medical intervention like a medication adjustment, etc., that was when I picked the phone to contact my pdoc.
