Eh, I would put it more like everyone did something wrong, and some more than others. The fact that they all had ulterior motives and were trying to assert some sort of base dominance just compounds the error.

Er, I neglected to mention that he took my stuff (still damp) out of the drier to put their stuff in, then when they took their stuff out again, left my wet stuff in a basket on the shelf and didn't put it back in. So I am maybe more upset that he's upset while I still have wet clothes.

Can I join the Ts away for the 4th party? Even though mine isn't technically going away, he's obviously off on the 4th and we haven't been doing Fridays this summer. And same for the week after...no Thursday or Friday.

But you could. I think you could. We're talking about assertiveness, not aggression. Probably won't feel very good at first, but just submitting didn't feel good, either, did it? I'm not saying that when your son confronted you, it would have been a positive response to go on the attack. However, you could have said something like, "Son, my clothes weren't completely dry, and I am simply trying to expedite the drying of your load so my clothes can get back in to finish." No apology, just a matter of fact explanation that is not overly accusatory or reactive.
