Do you folks think talkspace, betterhelp and the like track user IPs and payment information to make sure people don't have multiple active accounts? Would the therapist at least be altered that the user is suspicious?

It seems like this would be an opportunity for people who have attachment issues to fulfill some sort of need. Maybe even to make up identities.

On the other hand, if the site is getting paid, maybe nobody cares.

Interesting question. I would guess no, but maybe “big brother” is tracking because they seem to track everything. It isn’t the job of the therapist to play detective, but simply to work with what the client presents. Many people have multiple face-to-face therapists, anyways. If one wants and can afford to do so, then go for it. It might be a common courtesy to let the Ts know there are others, though, and to give them a better perspective in order to receive the best treatment for any such attachment issues.

yes they do. all websites track ip addresses (every computer has an IP address "chip " built into it. with out it a person cant access the internet, cant access websites and cant post, read or reply. )

yes on some sites where you are only supposed to have only one account a persons IP address shows whether two accounts are the same person, or at the very least the same computer and internet provider is being used for more than one account.

on sites that payments are made your payment choice (visa master card, pay pal or disposable / reloadable card) is attached to your profile because you have chosen to give them that information...

my suggestion if you are on a pay site where you are no longer happy with contact the admins and have your account deleted or you can go to the store and buy a disposable / reloadable card, that way you wont have to worry about their tracking system should you not make a payment or want a different account...

example on a paysite that I am a member of I went to the store and bought a reloadable visa/mastercard debit card. each month I upload only the amount needed for that one websites payment. At any time should I chose to I can render this card inactive just by not uploading any money to the card. which in turn would deactivate my existing account with that website, the moment they realize they are not getting the next payment for the next month.

using disposable cards and different computers it is possible to have more than one account but in my way of thinking why pay for two accounts on the same website just to pretend to be someone different when all you need to do is deactivate one account and start over fresh with one new account.

I mean can you see it now trying to make sure each time you are on talk space as XYZ only use this card, only talk about the problems associated with XYZ account and not cross over into discussing problems associated with ABC account and making sure you use this computer for XYZ and that computer for ABC and finacially instead of paying 50 for one account paying 100 for two accounts. (money amount is just an example for this post not a real amount)

my suggestion is cancel one account and start fresh rather than trying to keep two accounts with the same website straight.

just like here on psych central where members are required to only have one account sooner or later those sites will discover if you have two accounts. especially since many that work with one also works with the other, when I worked with talk space I also worked with betterhelp and others too.
