Curious. What's the ethnicity of many on here?

Is it mainly white people that enter therapy? That get dx?

It seems that way too me.

Even her in the UK where its normally white middle class.

Discounting the NHS crisis teams. That mainly deal with less well of folk.

Just wondering.

Are you talking about race or ethnicity? You mentioned “white”. That’s race. Not ethnicity.

Also race and ethnicity are very fluid concepts. Who determines what? I know very dark blacks who identify as whites because they are of mixed race but don’t like to identity as blacks or “mixed race”. I also know that in many regions Latino population identifies themselves as whites yet in most of the US they identify themselves as Hispanic.

I also wonder if you really are talking about ethnicity or socio economic level? You use juxtaposition of “white middle class” and “not well of folk”. Are you implying that if they aren’t well of, they aren’t white? Almost like you are assigning socio-economic level to certain races. Not sure what you meant

I am white but you asked about ethnicity, not race. My ethnicity is very mixed. I can’t really identify correctly as it’s a blend. I refer to myself as American, even if not native born. If people ask where I am from, I tell them but no one asks my ethnicity and I am not going into it with strangers. I do look white but it’s neither here nor there. I am middle class but I was below poverty line at some point so I saw t on a sliding scale.

As about who goes to therapy I know ton of people (some on personal level but most due to my line of work and some I just see in a waiting room of the clinic) of different races and ethnicities and socio economic levels who are in therapy. So it’s not limited to white middle class. Those who can’t afford it out of pocket use their health insurance, government provided health care or sliding scale.

I am white, middle class, American, woman, college educated and work retail. My family heritage is predominantly Scottish and French Canadian with a Dutch surname.
T is white, upper middle class, American, man, PhD. His heritage is Dutch/German.

His parents and my grandparents were more similar in demographics.

Yes, therapy is a luxury not afforded to most, and often not to thosemost in need.

I am of native ethnicity of my country. I am not "white". I was raised in a middle class home, have lived below the poverty line for most of my adult life, and probably fit into the "working class" model now. Meaning, I am by no means well off, but I have enough money to cover my living costs with a handful of change from week to week.
ETA I am university educated with two degrees.

I'm a white female, university educated, but would describe myself as "lower middle class". Most of my extra money goes to cover therapy. I don't have much left after covering necessary living expenses and therapy. But I've decided to invest in therapy. Without it, I wouldn't be alive.
