Last night at my PDOC appointment, well it really wasn't an appointment as I didn't have an appointment. But he had bought some expensive supplements for me and asked me to come in to get them picked up. Anyway, he gave me the supplements and three books, and we talked about hope and what gives us hope in our lives...I've been having suicidal thoughts so hope is very important to hang onto. We also talked about what is going to happen at the end of the year when he changes practices and goes cash only. He is going to charge $200 per visit. I told him I could do that. (I might still interview other PDOC's but I am not liking what information I am finding on the internet--reviews and such.) After he found out that I planned on still seeing him he was really happy. He said that the hardest part of changing jobs was losing some of his patients, like me. At the end of the session we stood up and hugged like we always do and he said, I love you. I know it wasn't romantic (if anything he's more like a father figure to me) because he spent part of the session talking about his wife and stuff she's been through and stuff she's learned from her (I guess she's a T). I know Pdocs and T's aren't supposed to say they love their clients. It did feel a little weird I have to say, but it mostly felt lovely. It was like we made a human connection. I hope he wasn't just happy that I was going to start paying him $200 a visit! I don't think I need to be concerned, but it did surprise me that he said it. I definitely won't bring it up to him in the future, and I don't anticipate him saying it again any time soon. --Kit

I had a pdoc for many years and we became very close

He is not my dr anymore as he said he had lost objectivity. He said this after he paid $25,000 so I could go to a long term treatment facility after I disclosed to him what was happening with my former therapist

We say love ya in texts . Check in. Hes sent me money before .

I havent actually seen him in 9 years! But we still talk

It is nice to know that there are pdocs out there that are compassionate and human

Ah that's really lovely Kit. It feels how it feels for you - some things just go beyond what society's view of relationships should be. Some Ts definitely go beyond any concept of their 'roles' and as long as it's heartfelt and genuine for both of you that's all that matters really.

Not for a psychiatrist. Pretty standard.

My Pdoc will tell me she loves me any time I need to hear it. It is just part of who she is and she knows I won’t take it wrong. She is $140/15min or $3?? For an hour appointment... Pdoc are not cheep, especially good ones.

$200 is a lot when he only sees you for 2-3 minutes of a 15 minute appointment.

My pdoc sees me fore 15 minutes to half an hour depending upon the time I need. I do not think I personally would be comfortable hugging or hearing an "I love you" from a pdoc.

I saw a dermatologist a few times who insisted on hugging when we said hello and goodbye (like it was a handshake or something). And I barely knew her. I thought it was weird.

My "regular" T charges $ 350 for a 50 minute hour. I need to see him more often than I do, but can't afford it.

I had a good pdoc 10 years ago that took me under her wing. It was still a doctor/patient relationship. Good pdocs are very hard to find. Lucky where i live it's covered but you do not have a choice in who is your pdoc. Hugs
