I’m thinking of ideas to begin a mental health blog. There needs to be more awareness. If anyone would like to share their story, struggles, recovery, and what helps you heal, I can put them together completely anonymously as an introduction to the blog so it helps people feel not so alone. You can PM me the stories for privacy.

I decided not to do it. I’m sure it won’t be successful.

Mental health blogs take a great deal of monitoring, editing, and content update. There are many on the web. You should Google what already is out there and decide how you can make yours unique. I had a blog for a long time. When I started my first book, I just ran out of time to maintain it. Also, setting up a blog requires design skills. I didn't have those skills so I had to hire someone to design the blog for me. My blog got good feedback because my focus was on ways to improve relationships with our psychiatrists and therapists. It was problem solving focused. There was a lot of interest so it kept the blog going. I still get views even though I haven't updated content in a couple of years. If you get a blog topic people really engage with, it can live on if you can't always maintain it.

I had a good idea to start out with but something happened on my page and I couldn’t get it figured out.
I am deeply reflecting what it is like to live with mental illness and there are so many people suffering. |

That’s a good idea. There are a lot of blogs out there about mental health struggles. Some are active and some aren’t.
In fact many PC members have mental health blogs, you see links in their signature lines or on their profile pages. Check them out and maybe see what their focus is and how they run their blogs. You can maybe PM them to ask how they started. |

I like the idea of having other voices/stories---but if that daunts you or people are initially quiet, set that piece aside and just work on writing/when you read what is out there, notice what appeals to you and what doesn't, what you don't see that you would like to.... (maybe talk to HappyCrafter as she has used her story & recovery & has been published & more) __________________ "...don't say Home / the bones of that word mend slowly...' marie harris |

It took me a month to get my blog up and running. You are way ahead of where I was. I have such severe trauma induced OCD that had to work with a blog designer trying to get just the right format and the right visuals, pictures, photos, anything that made the blog visually appealing. When I wrote my first content I was so obsessive about it I ran the text by my psychiatrist for an expert psychiatric opinion on my content. He was very enthusiastic and said patients and psychiatrists would find what I wrote very useful. The first blog post was on strategies for finding a good psychiatrist. The second blog post was on strategies for finding a good therapist. So, I added text and launched the blog. Terrifying.
Good luck with your blog. Who are you using? Blue Host? |
