I have never had a male T but may be starting with one this week. The girl I was supposed to start with doesn’t have availability that I need so they are recommending this guy. I know a lot of people love having a male T. How are they different from female Ts?

I have a male Pastor T and a female regular T. I haven't seen much difference between the two. He might be a little pushier but I think it is his style of therapy. But he is also willing to scale back the scope of therapy if I am not doing well. Regular T is like that too. I'd say give it a shot. You may find that you like him. HUGS Kit

I'm female, and I actually sort of prefer male T's. For whatever reason, I find it easier to open up to a male. As for how they are, it can vary widely. My ex-marriage counselor was male and very warm and fuzzy. My current individual T is male and is, to use his words, "caring, but not warm and fuzzy" (though he has his moments of warmth and/or, er, fuzz?). My ex-T was female but not particularly warm and fuzzy either. So much is about their personality and how they practice. So I'd give it a try.

What is most important to me is support between sessions since we will be doing trauma work. Other therapists have been scared to do trauma work with me because I have not been overly stable. I really need to do it though. I don’t think I will ever be stable without resolving these issues. So if my only choice right now is a male T I guess I will take it. My old T had very strict ethics and was not very caring.

I never thought I would be OK with a male T... then I took the risk with current T. I had 9+ previous T’s that were all women. Current T is more compassionate, he is more sensitive to me emotions especially fear. He is more flexible and willing to try different things. I also have severe trauma that most said I would never resolve. Current T s behind me 100% AND he has triggered me far less than anyone else.

I have only had a male T and I was concerned at first, I have a lot of trauma related to the men in my life. Honestly, I am very thankful that I went with a guy and think it has been incredibly healing for me.

I have zero desire to ever see a female T again... To me the ones I have seen are all just too freaking chatty,I do not want a cheerleader I want someone that can help me see things from a different angle or explain a coping skill in a few sentences and not waste 20 mins out of my session.

My Male T is blunt and to the point... We are goal oriented, we have done alot of csa trauma and ptsd work and I know how to do therapy any other way. When he retires I have zero interest in seeing a new therapist and reguritate my life to bring them up to speed. nope

I've never had a male therapist but I do have an amazing male psychiatrist. He has been magnificent with my unique trauma issues and works closely with my specialist trauma therapist. If he weren't a psychiatrist but was a therapist instead, I'd jump at the chance to do therapy with him. Fortunately, I have the best of both worlds. A specialty trauma therapist who has lots of training and experience with people who have trauma like mine and a trauma informed, mostly in patient, psychiatrist who totally gets on both a psychiatric level and human level what it means to have been born to and raised by schizophrenic parents who refused treatment.

I'm in good hands and have been for 25 years.

I had a male T. A guy about 2 years older then me. I thought he’d be great. I saw him once and he heard the word “autism” and was like nope gotta transfer you. So now I see a female. There’s certain diagnosis they don’t mess with for some reason and autism is one of them. I do feel like he would have worked out though no matter what he said. I know it was nothing personal.

Not so sure about this guy. Don’t know if it was because he was male or he was too touchy feely with his emotions and energy. I still have two more Ts to interview. Oh and he doesn’t really do out of session contact. You can call or email but he won’t get back to you for 48 hours.

I've only had one T, who is male. I imagine some are touchy feely like the one you just met and others are not (mine isn't), just like women. Basically if the T seems like a good fit otherwise, and you're not really uncomfortable with men, I'd say try it.

I am more concerned with doing trauma therapy with a therapist that is unavailable outside of session.

He left the facility unfortunately!
