Yeah, I think he was trying to not make me feel bad about the extra session, but he went about it in the wrong way. Once I said to ex-MC that it feels like he only cares because I pay him, and he said, "You can pay me to do my job, but you can't pay me to care." Like he chooses to care. That meant a lot to me. I know that Dr. T cares about me, even if it's not something he expresses much, and that he'd only say "I care about your well-being" or "I care about your success." Though once I asked more about that, and he said it's not the amount of caring, it's the type--professional caring vs. the "I care about you" in personal life. But it's more that I can now tell from his actions, how he acts toward me rather than his words. It's taken a long time to get there though. |

How will you do with students wearing masks and your hearing loss? Won't that make it more difficult for you not being able to see their mouth while they are speaking? And won't a plastic shield make it harder for them to hear you?

I don’t lip-read, but yes, seeing someone’s mouth moving does help a bit. Lip-reading by itself is only about 50% effective, and hearing people use it as a reason not to adjust their own behaviors: “oh they can just lip-read.” That was kind of the answer I got in the session. |

It is indeed. But I only hired those who had no receptionist. I did not want them hiding behind a facade that it wasn't a pay to play service. Tossing money on the table between the therapist's chair and her horrible couch before walking out was the best part of the appointment.

My husband said something pretty funny, but I agree. Is it too late to hitch a ride on the Dragon 9? I want to get the hell off of this planet.

We're supposed to do staggered attendance too but honestly it would be easier to just do it all online. (I teach graduate classes so students can handle it just fine; I might feel differently if I taught freshmen or sophomores.) Anyway, I'll be pitching for my classes to be all online and see how far I get. __________________ "I would rather have questions that can't be answered than answers which can't be questioned." --Richard Feynman |

I really wish I had taken German since I took that in high school and it comes easier to me than Spanish, but I'm stuck with Spanish for three reasons. First, I can't get a refund at this point since the drop period is like two days after classes start during summer school. Second, if I did drop, that would mean I would have to take language classes in the spring/fall in order to graduate in the spring, and every time I take more than 4 classes, it's a **** show. Third, since I failed Spanish the first time, I need to retake it in order to replace the F so it won't keep hurting my GPA.

Why the salary cuts, @@? I hope if they're cutting faculty salaries they're cutting the bloated salaries of the muckety mucks, too.
ETA - This may be an unpopular opinion, but if I were the one footing the bill instead of my parents, I'd be kind of bitter about paying $600 every semester for athletics - especially when my uni isn't even a division I school. Doesn't seem right to cut salaries. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

But one or the other is likely, because enrollment for fall is lagging, especially among the out of staters who pay higher tuition. As for athletics...ours bring in many millions of dollars and we’re not an athletic powerhouse. So they actually help pay salaries, which doesn’t mean students should be billed for them. |

The president, provost, and deans have all taken cuts at my school. We don't yet know what the faculty percentage will be.

My painting from tonight. I didn't realize when I signed up for it that it was almost a 4 hour class. I was only expecting 2 hours.
I'm so overwhelmed tonight. Wednesday afternoon is my half of our CPS team meeting and I'm freaking out about the possible outcomes. |

There's pretty much crickets at all the athletic events at my uni despite the fact that students can attend free. I think there might be a small number of people who go to the basketball games, especially when we play a division I school, but really not many. We don't have a football team thank God. You can buy school football memorabilia at various shops downtown as a sort of joke that nobody but current students and alums are likely to even get. A number of standard sports that other universities have, we do not. For example, I would probably go to a field hockey game, but we don't have a team.
This sort of thing is especially frustrating given the budget doesn't even allow for our one library to be open for reasonable hours on the weekend. I think it closes at 4 or 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Oh, and it costs more than $400 to buy a parking permit because there is no budget for the parking department, so the funding comes 100% from permits and tickets. And instead of having the athletic fields in a sensible location like other unis - on the fringes of university grounds - they are closer to classroom buildings than the parking lot that I have to pay $400 per semester for. Yet another frustration is that the two dining halls close at 8pm and 10pm (and honestly stop serving anything but sandwiches an hour before closing). One of them is closed on the weekends and the other doesn't open until 10am and closes at 8pm. It's weird. And don't get me started on the prices - $12 for lunch is pretty outrageous. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

Apparently the people who were arrested in my uni town Sunday night were charged for not dispersing, disturbing the peace, and violating curfew. Given that there were apparently hundreds of people down there, this seems strange. I also don't understand why there was a curfew when the protest on Saturday was very peaceful. I didn't even know there was a curfew - I thought that was only going to happen tonight. To be honest, it sounds to me like these people were arrested for protesting and not because they actually did anything wrong. Maybe to send some sort of message to everybody else. I really hope the charges are dismissed. My sister told me she has been donating to help with bail money for protesters. I would if I could not just because I think there's an abuse of power and violation of civil liberties going on, but because I am not in favor of cash bail anyway. It's really unfair and penalizes people based on socioeconomic status rather than risk related to release pending judgement.

I have "supervised" my sister and nieces for 4 days now, and I'm beyond exhausted. I'm irritated and snapping at H and the dogs...even L. I need a break. But how? I tell my dad he must do the 11 hour shift by himself? Tell my sister to drop off the girls at the police station for my shift? This is such bs.
