Decided to make my own thread a bit like LT did a while back. I've put that I'm in UK just so that people know but welcome responses from anywhere!

It's good to see the UK getting a mention because I think the therapy culture here is quite different from the US, for example.

Is there anything specific you want to tell us about your therapy experience?

Dreading therapy on Wednesday after my therapist refused point blank to see me twice a week for a short period of 1-6 months just to get me through several things. Her excuse: You don't need it! It's too intense. You're not in crisis.

Surely it's my decision, as I'm paying out of pocket, it's up to me, I'm the client.

I know plenty of people from the UK on this forum and elsewhere who are as I say from the UK and see their therapists twice a week.

I have booked to go to a nice quiet woodland pub for lunch after therapy on Wednesday to cheer me up, because I am not looking forward to the session.

How long have you been with this T? I always think the best expert on you is you. Are you still in a crisis?

I have seen mine twice a week if I needed to...but then he told me he works a different Care job half the week, so I haven’t asked him since. I think he can only use his office on Mondays and Tuesdays? Maybe wednesdays. Idk but feels like he’s too busy for me, especially twice.

Periodically, I see my therapist twice a week. She offers this (I have never asked) when things are particularly difficult, mostly as a response to the material I am working on at the time. When we move back to once a week, I feel very negatively about her as if she is taking something away. She once explained to me that if I see her twice a week as a norm, there is no where else for us to go when I am in unusual difficulty. Of course, it would be possible to see a therapist multiple times a week (and some posters here do), but I am not sure how practical or desirable that is for most clients. I am currently seeing her twice a week and I still want more from her, although of course I would never tell her that because of my shame around "confessing" to wanting things. So, it is genuinely impressive to me that you would ask for twice a week and I would also say that twice a week is not always the support it might seem (and, as I type that, I am aware that I am accessing support twice a week so maybe I am speaking from a place of ease).

My therapist is Person Centred. This past couple of days I have actually looked into Psychoanalytical Attachment Based Therapy. There's a woman near me who practices it. She generally sees people once a week but both her Counselling Directory Page and her website say she can offer Twice a week therapy.

May look into that and see about changing. This attachment I based psychoanalytical woman has now started seeing people face to face too, whereas my Person Centred Lady won't see people face to face till September.

Also, I did feel very told off by my Person Centred T last session. She referred to me as a complex case to my face, I presume because of my trauma history and issues.

There's loads more I will probably write in time.

I feel really rubbish. Started with a new attatchment Psychoanalyst from UKCP. She is fabulous!

She is now on holiday till 7th September.

We've only had six sessions.

During our last session, I jumped, I freaked out a bit. I think I had a panic attack, or had a flashback or dissociated a bit. Was unable to speak to therapist for about to 15 minutes and was unable to respond to her questions.

I was fine and back to normal once she called to my senses but am now terrified she will abandon me or not be able to deal with me!

I asked therapist twice after I came round to not give up on me and she assured me she wouldn't. I asked therapist what if it happens again? She assured me if it happened again she would still be with me and it would be OK.

But I still think she might give up on me or have changed her mind by September 7th! Help! I'm scared.
