would you tell your t you started seeing a new t? i don’t want to tell t, because I want the door to still be open to see him. but, i also think maybe I need to find closure with t in order to bond with new t. i’m so back and forth. opinions?

Personally I wouldn’t be able to keep things straight between both Ts but that is just me. I know there are people who successfully handle both. Say one does DBT and the other doesn’t I would tell them about each other. But if they are in the same discipline I know some Ts that won’t see you if there is another T. Sorry that really probably confused things more. Basically I think it just depends on the T.

i have been seeing the first t on and off for years. i started seeing new t a couple for a couple weeks. they are both psychologists, but new t has more experience in trauma. new t knows about first t. first t does not know about new t. make sense?

I'd be cautious if you want to see both T's. Some T's won't see you if you are seeing a different T unless they are doing much different work than the two of you are doing. Like for a while I was seeing a T and also seeing my Pastor for therapy but my Pastor was specifically basing his therapy on CBT with a religious focus. Both T's knew about the other T and both were okay with it. After a while I ended up not being okay with it and terminated with Pastor T. I still see the other T. Often they would conflict on how they would view things or how they thought something should be approached or treated though. Beware of that. It can become confusing.

If you are not currently actually seeing your first therapist because you see him off and on, I do not see why you would need to tell him. However if you do see him while seeing the second therapist, I think it is wise to tell him.

If I was seeing current T and worked with someone else and wanted to take a break from current T he would be totally OK with that. If I told him I might want to come back to him he would jokingly tell me he planned on being there for a while (not intending to retire or move).
