My choice is to have therapy over Telehealth which is distracting for me. The other choice is in session with a mask but I have trouble breathing so I won’t be able to pay attention. What should i do?

Work on breathing techniques...mindful breath work, deep, healthy, even breaths...until you feel more comfortable in your mask.

btw, I suggest a very soft, cotton mask. Organic cotton is wonderful. etsy is a good source. Also gaiaconceptions (very soft organic cotton masks that are easier to breathe in than others). Good masks are not cheap, but it's worth it in the long run.

In office. Teletherapy is just plain not as 'real.'

Personally I could not last a solid hour in a mask. Although teletherapy is not ideal it is not that bad once you get used to it. Whatevee works better dor you. I would also feel uncomfortable looking at my T in a mask.

Why is your T requiring masks all of a sudden? I thought you said you have been doing face to face all along.

I agree, get a nice soft mask you can breathe through. It’s weird wearing them at first but I got used to it pretty quickly.

I can’t imagine where, in what crazy place, would therapists do face to face with no masks required?

Can you really not imagine it, or are you just using a figure of speech? Because there are a few posts on here where people have said about having F2F therapy with no mask. I’m a key worker in an office and we have had to sit about 2 metres away from each other through the entire pandemic...with no masks allowed.

Masks are for enclosed public spaces or when social distancing cannot be maintained.

I was in shock when I read about therapy with no masks, therapy office is enclosed public place, so “I can’t imagine” automatically popped in my head. Yes I guess I can imagine, just am mortified. No wonder numbers are rising in some states. Such things aren’t allowed in my state

That’s not universally correct. It’s maybe a guideline in your specific area only

What about clear face shield, hope? In my understanding they don’t provide the same protection but I’d ask your t if it’s sufficient?

That’s why the U-S is in the situation it’s in. More than three dozen states reporting spikes in the number of new infections because people refuse to listen to science - (it cramps their style)
But why listen to a man like Dr Anthony Fauci when you can get sound medical advice from a two-bit con and his bucket of deplorables? 👍

my in person session tomorrow will be the first face to face in 4 months. We are meeting outside and plan on no masks. My T's office is large enough that technically we could be well over the 6 ft/2m distance between us while in her office. That being said, I am in an area that requires masks for public indoors areas.

I rarely comment but felt quite strongly about this thread
I’ve been having chemotherapy and radiotherapy over this lockdown period and it’s a time of great fear and illness (nausea fainting etc)but masks were needed and no reassuring touch or close contact it was extremely isolating and sad- as a Vet and my daughter a veterinary nurse she’s been fully masked /gloved and visored up for months
However unpleasant we can’t expect health professionals to put themselves at risk in enclosed spaces whatever the circumstances

Cramps their style lol More like violates their rights to be ignorant

Our state was one of the worst initially but we are now mending a bit, saying that our governor is openly hated by the federal government and by some local “homo ignoramus” because she keeps many things closed and masks are mandated.

I’ve been to many medical facilities (my husband is having surgery) and no way no how people would be allowed in a clinic with no masks. And sit in the office with no masks? I can’t even...

Outside might be ok if distance is maintained. In my understanding masks were required in public indoor areas everywhere but one poster from UK said they don’t wear them in the office at work and don’t wear them in therapist office even though it’s mandated in UK to wear a mask when outpatient or inpatient or any other medical facility. Hope’s therapist is her psychiatrist so it’s medical facility

I have allergies and asthma so am having a lot of trouble breathing lately. The mask definitely makes it a little harder. It also takes a bit of getting used to seeing T face to face with a mask but for me it is totally worth it.

Numbers of cases probably went up in your state and he has to follow new guidelines. He shouldn’t endanger himself and his patients
