ok. maybe this is just me.

last session we talked quite a bit about my ED. I said something like 'I'm not underweight, but I still don't have my period, and it's quite unhealthy the longer this goes on.' and then my T said something like 'also you are getting older now, you are not 14 or 15 anymore.' (I'm 21).

Anyway I just don't quite get what my T meant by bringing up my age. Does she mean that because I'm getting older, then some consequences may not be as reversible, and I need to do something about it? I was real confused about how my age is correlated with any of this.

But it kind of made me a bit sad that I was diagnosed with anorexia when I was 15, and I'm now 21, and I'm far from recovered.

Ask your T what she meant.

Only your therapist knows what she meant, but I understand the implication to be that you are not a teenager anymore and so it is more likely that your menstruation cycle would be more regular and established.

I would be curious also. I dont know enough about Eds to answer but to say that maybe she means that for some 14 year olds are irregular.

I think she was referring to regularity of periods (for some women).

Another thought...I had an ED for a few years of my life and the last thing I wanted was to be reminded of my age, that I was getting older, because I wanted to look like a child. Some people with ED's feel that way. Is it possible that her mention of your age was upsetting to you?
