Is there some level where one can become a bit *too* comfortable/relaxed with their T? TMI alert: I was talking with Dr. T about my parents being unable to Facetime with D at our usual weekly time this week (which really upset my D) because my mom will be doing colonoscopy prep. And T was like, "Why couldn't she talk because of that?' (I tried to explain). And then he was saying how of any medical procedure he'd had done, that his colonoscopy was the least uncomfortable, that having skin tags removed was much more unpleasant. In reference to the colonoscopy, I said how I knew it was under anesthesia (H has had it done, and I had to drive him home), adding "But I would think the area would be sore after?" Before my brain caught up to what exactly I'd just asked him, he said, "No, not really." And then I quickly changed the subject...

That doesn't seem "too" comfortable. It's a test most of us have or will experience at some point. That question about discomfort doesn't seem too much really - I think a lot of people wonder that. (And for the record, he's correct about the lack of soreness. The prep is the harder part - the procedure is the easy part. The recovery is not much at all - just getting beyond the anesthesia.)

Haha, I think I've talked about weirder things with my T. But she had a front-row seat to my fertility/pregnancy/birth journey, so... yeah. The first three rows are going to get splashed.
Congrats, WFS! I hope your daughter and that teeny, tiny baby are doing okay. |

I was not sore after my colonoscopy. I don't remember even feeling the thing going in when I woke up during it.
The prep was truly awful, though. Felt so sick drinking that stuff and had a really hard time getting the last two cups down. I really felt like vomiting but was trying not to and some ended up coming out my nose. Horrible. __________________ Life is hard. Then you die. Then they throw dirt in your face. -David Gerrold |

I have to have colonoscopies done every other year because of a close family relations who had colon cancer, and I have polyps they have to watch. The prep is so hit and miss about how awful it is. There are different types of prep, and I also was just miserably sick to my stomach with one particular type. I practically refused to have another one done so my GI doc promised me that it wouldn't be so bad the next time and used something different for the prep. I do have to say it was relatively better--but it is definitely relative. Hate that stuff. The procedure itself is generally a cake walk by comparison.
My sister was the one of the ones who had colon cancer, so she had to have colonoscopies like every 6 months. Her GI doc's name was Dr. Hiney (I kid you not). She infamously put a fake tattoo of a heart with her doctor's name on it on her rear end before one of her colonoscopies. He took a picture of it for her to keep. LOL! My sister was a hoot - miss her. |

@LT...I have had colon cancer and have had many colonoscopies. No it is not sore afterward. Can you meet with your parents earlier in the day before she starts the prep? That is the worst part.

Today in session, as part of a conversation about my fearing annoying people, Dr. T said how I tend to apologize to him 3-10 times each session. Me: “Do I really apologize that much?” Five minutes later, Me: “blah blah blah...I’m sorry. Oh, I just apologized, didn’t I?” Me ten minutes later “..[something something something]...I’m sorry. Ack, I did it again!” I joked he was going to have a white board to keep track of it. He held up a pad of paper and a pen. I think I apologized one or two more times, too.

Today is 8 months from my mental health hospitalization. I usually have very bad memories of the hospital every 25th but today, so far, I haven't. I have felt the need to cry a few times but I'm not much of a crier. I don't know what that is about because I'm not "in touch" with those feelings! I'm glad today isn't turning out to be too bad. My Dad is bringing me lunch to my work today too. To celebrate the 8 months!

Thanks, Kit--I'm better with it than I used to be. It used to really annoy my husband. In some ways, it's like a reflex, and I don't even realize I'm doing it. Some of the times I've apologized to T recently (not today) were when I was crying and had trouble speaking, and Dr. T said to me today that if I can't cry in a therapist's office (well, "office"), then where can I cry? In other words, that I never have to apologize for crying. I did say I imagined he was saving money on tissues with me not seeing him in person. Dr. T: "That $1.50 a month is really making a difference!" (He can be a bit snarky/sarcastic, but that's part of what I like about him.) |

LT - I used to apologize to furniture for bumping into it. I think thats because my mother would yell at me for bumping into stuff. I mean, she would yell at me for everything, right? So it became a habit to apologize pretty much for being me. Friends eventually called my attention to it and teased me out of it, but it was accidental friends, like when a good person becomes a neighbor and poof you have a friend. The person who had the brother who helped her move more than once, and whose mother was mother of the year.
