I used to have a high resting heart rate (in the 100's). My bp was also a little high, so they put me on a low dose of a medication, and both bp and pulse have been beautiful.

I hope if they do find something, it's a simple fix.

Thanks, Scarlet! My heart rate hasn't been quite that high, but still considerably higher than it was even a couple months ago. Good to know the medication was so helpful. My BP was sort of right on the border, I think? I used to have low blood pressure throughout much of my life, but I think age and metabolism are catching up to me...

Vet says crotchety cat has good kidneys and elevated liver enzymes. We could x-ray ($$$) or ultrasound ($$$$). I asked whether it would be advisable to put a 17 y.o. cat through surgery if we did see something, or if we'd just do what we're already doing and keep him comfortable. So managing his inflammation, watching for pain, and giving him the best late life we can it is. Which we can do without putting him through the inconvenience and indignity of a procedure, which is how he would certainly perceive the whole thing.

Maybe not if he experiences the fleece coat first? He might adjust his indignity standards after that.

Long vent warning

Possible trigger:

Another session where we ended up talking about the insurance issue and she's pretty positive that she'll be dropping my insurance as this is happening with everyone that uses that insurance. Actually, I'm starting to wonder if she isn't dropping all insurances because of some of her comments.

She's all about being super flexible around payments and stuff. I tried to tell her that it won't matter because I'm not flexible that way. That I won't be able to allow myself to see her very much if at all if she is out of network. I would probably be able to do 1 x a week with no issues and might be able to stretch it to 2x a week but with that I will start to push myself to "be done" and I won't be able to let things happen at the pace they need to happen. It won't be the same. There's no way in the world I could do 4x a week because I won't be able to pay what insurance pays and I won't be able to accept paying her significantly less. Even at the 2x a week, I will have a hard time looking my wife in the eyes knowing that I am spending this kind of money on therapy. She talked about trying to get me to being able to see that I am allowed. She keeps saying she's committed to this journey. It's all messed up... It's messing me up in terms of parts and okness and ... what's the pointisms... And I don't see her again until Monday.

We talked some about the out of network process and such. She talked about how this was frustrating for her on several levels but also because it was intruding into our time. I told her that if we do the out of network thing it would still intrude, just not with her because I'd handle it all outside of our sessions. The administrative element of our relationship shifting to being on me. And that I would grow to resent that.

I get that what is happening with the insurance is totally unfair to her and unethical for them to ask for clinical notes for 90% of my sessions and if that's across the board... then that's a lot of sessions. She keeps getting the run around with the 3rd party auditing group (Change Heathcare). I don't know the whole story of course because other clients involved and some not my business...and all that.

I might have a bit of leverage because my insurance is actually just a servicer of my wife's employer self insurance. But this is happening with other insurance plans at this insurance company so her dropping that insurance is completely reasonable.

Anyway, I guess she has some meeting next week and the whole thing will be decided - more the decision will be when she is no longer officially in network with them not if she'll be in network with them. On one hand, I wish she would have given me more heads up about it because maybe something could have been done through my wife's EOB office. As it is, there isn't much time. And I think her mind is made up.

Maybe I'll ask her if she'll stay in network but not manage the billing. If that is even an option. I have a feeling that is not an option. I know because of the nature of my plan, it would be possible to stay with that insurance only under my plan. I don't want to bring up that option... even if my wife's EOB is able to resolve something there.

I just want to quit, hide, maybe do worse... pointless.

Hugs, Elio. I'm so sorry you're going through that. Insurance can really suck. L doesn't work with any insurance companies so I've been paying out of pocket for most of the time I've seen her. The first year before I changed jobs, I was submitting to insurance and getting reimbursed some, but my current job/insurance our out of network deductible is ridiculously high so i'd never meet it. I hope you are able to work something out that is comfortable for you.

Hugs, WFS. That's where we're at with our diabetic cat. He's either 13 or 14 (probably closer to 14 by now) and just hates going to the vet, he gets so upset, I think a lot of that is because we can't go in with him, they come out to the parking lot to get him. We did the x-ray because it wasn't too horribly expensive (under $300, still a lot) but after that didn't find anything, decided against the MRI (like you said, $$$$) for the same reason - putting him through so much - and the vet said even if we did that, there were no guarantees they would find anything that could be fixed. So we're managing his diabetes and his mobility issues as well as possible and keeping him comfortable at home. I was talking about it with L recently and she mentioned that there's vets in town that will come to your house when it's time to let him go (she did that with her dog). I hadn't known that. We're going to go with that option so we can be with him when the time comes. Until then, I'm enjoying my time with him when I can.
