I hate it when they have a tip pool. I'm not tipping the other waiters. I want to tip my waiter.

(The documentary was on youtube called Hard Earned - The American Dream)

I thought tipping was different in the UK though, like it's not expected? Here it's typically a big portion of the waitstaff's pay, like they tend to get paid below minimum wage (right, is that still the case?)

ETA: In fact, many restaurants automatically add an 18% to 20% tip for tables of 6 or more.

Yep it is different. Our minimum wage does go up depending on your age. It's currently at £8.72 an hour for someone aged 25 which would be $11.29.

My old boss at the pharmacy used to give me 2p above when I was 16.

Just got home from a Costco run, had to re-up the cat food, TP and paper towels. We were almost out of all 3, nothing like waiting til the last minute haha. We buy the big 60 pack of the cat's soft food, it goes pretty fast with all of them eating it.

Now it's time to buckle down and get some homework done. Prof still hasn't graded my midterm presentation, she said she was going to finish grading them this week but she works 2 jobs besides teaching (she's mentioned being a therapist at a treatment facility, but hasn't mentioned what the other job is) so I suppose I shouldn't really be checking as often as I have been... it's worth 100 points and everything up until now has been worth either 10 or 20 points so this is a biggie.

Today was my last day of PHP by my choice. I don't feel 100% ready to be done, but I also don't feel like more time would make me more ready. I've been working on a schedule with my new T for what my time is going to look like going forward, since I'm not going back to work. I think I have a good plan, though the best-laid plans of mice and men...

I'm with you in regards to school anxiety, Artie. I turned in a paper last Sunday that the professor hasn't graded yet. It's worth 15% of the total for the course, so I hope I get a good grade on it.

Federal minimum wage is $7.25 here, which Google tells me is £5.60, and it hasn't gone up in over ten years. The minimum wage for restaurant workers is $2.13 (£1.64). States can mandate a higher minimum wage but not a lower one, although I don't know how many states do mandate a higher minimum wage. So I don't really tip to be nice but to make sure my server can pay their rent and feed themselves. I really wish they just made the food cost more and gave everybody a living wage. Seems more humane.

My state has a $12 minimum wage that started first of this year. For tipped employees here, I am thinking it's $9 but I'm not sure on that...

Pre-Covid, my understanding is that servers themselves would oppose that because they'd probably make less money, at least at high end restaurants. Post-Covid, though, I've noticed a few restaurants have made this change—they tack on a 20% service charge instead of encouraging tipping.

Got Karen’d this morning by someone complaining about a “loud conversation” coming from my apartment window, by which they meant this morning’s class. This person was not a neighbor, just someone walking in the building garden—5 floors down.

The manager didn’t have a problem with it—she went out and could barely hear us, plus it was during non-quiet hours—but this person must have super hearing.

I hope they learned the conjugation of leipo because I’m not sure my students did.

Servers in my state make the regular minimum wage of $11.25. I still tip them.

We dont tip here usually but i have seen tip jars on the counters of some coffee shops.

Has anyone seen the New series by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost? I havent got Amazon Prime but i loved the Cornetto trilogy and Spaced and Paul.
Just read its got Julian Barrett and Malcolm Mc Dowell in it. I might just get the trial.

On Thursday i went back to my usual gp clinic because i wasnt feeling well. My gp took me off my blood pressure med s because my blood pressure was too low and i went to a chemist every month to check it seemed fine. Well it was 209/103 i didnt have a headache which i normally do when it is high i just felt a little off. So i am resting up for a while. Like proper resting up not my usual "i have rested for a bit i think i will dig a trench in the garden now" resting up

I tip, and often quite well. But it’s not automatic, it’s linked to quality of service.

Kind of like my attitude towards A grades.

Finally worked out the trick to air con in my house... dont wait until it is unbearably hot to turn it on as itbstruggles. As well as me getting cranky because its taking so long to cool down. In all the other houses i have lived in there has been trees to shade the house not with a govt house they tear down every tree and bit of garden, so i am waiting for the trees i have planted to grow shouldnt be too long as the foot high sapling i planted in May or June is now as tall as I am now so nearly 5 foot.

My mouth hurts and is making me cranky.

At one point during the dental procedures yesterday, he had this woodburning type tool melting the dental dam stretched across my lower lip. I could see and smell it smoking. Im like, "mmmmheymmmm!"

Yuck yuck yuck. I need to see a dentist i gound one that is genuinely sensitive to dental phobias not just says they are and carry on despite your protests. They also do payment plans which is a bonus. All the fillings i had done 18 months ago have fallen out

Ugh, what I hate most about dental visits is when I need a crown and during the prep drilling I can smell

Possible trigger:

Yeah i had that while he was trying to extract the file.

It was worse at the dental school - the setup there was a large room of cubicles, so it wasnt just your OWN smells and sounds.

Nobody wants to listen to my cackling!

Its from chewing those menthol pixie styx! That is completely bogus! I was sooooo glad yesterday when i found out the REAL reason they changed the office location for my appointment - they have an actual GROWN UP dentist to consult there. I think he was over 40! Honestly i feel like im going to the dentist at a child day care center. It did NOT help, my first visit there, that they had tiny kids yak yak yakking for a good 2 hours.
