Default My pdoc & T say I don't need them.

This past week my T told me she read my pdoc's notes on me with my session She told me he thought I was doing so good I didn't need him or her. She said he reccomended my primary prescribes my antidepressant Citalopram
Background. I've been working on my goals of not being so down on myself and stop the tendency to not take what people say too personally..
So I thought of now in the time of COVID this could be the \worst time not to get therapy. for myself. I do feel I'm improving in my outlook but still with COVID being so stressful. What do you think?

Without knowing too much of the backstory, I feel like you should be the one deciding whether you need them or not. They are working for you, after all. I mean, if you truly feel like you've gained all you need from therapy and psychiatry, then by all means, it may not be necessary to see a therapist or psychiatrist. But if you think you need them, then they should be there for you. I have personally at times thought that I don't need therapy or psychiatry, but my psychiatrist and therapist say the opposite, and reason with me. I haven't ever had it the other way around where they tell me I don't need them. But I would just say to be honest with them, to say that you feel like now may not be the best time to leave treatment with them, and then see what they say.

Terminating therapy is a colaborative decision you and Your T, I agree with WastingAsparagus. Talk to You T, be honest, just tell them what You have written here and see what they say.

I agree. The choice to terminate should be your decision. Additionally, not everyone has to be in crisis to receive therapy. I would question this further.

I think tha behavior of your T is odd. Everyone can make use of psychotherapy.

Also, I would not let go of the pdoc. Having psych meds prescribed by a GP can be ineffectual or downright risky.

To echo everyone else - talk to them. I agree that just because you’re doing better, doesn’t mean you don’t need therapy. As long as you find therapy useful, and not using it to fill an unreasonable or unrealistic void - then have at it.

Agreed. One of my biggest fears is that I get better and all my support leaves. It's happened to me before. But just because you're doing well doesn't mean you don't need them. It's like doing well on a medication. Just because you're doing well doesn't mean to stop the medication. Same with your situation. If they pull your support away, what will happen? Is your doing well dependent on their support?

Thank you for your helpful replies. I think so too simply because I am doing, coping better doesn't mean I don't them my T&pdoc. Especially in the time of COVID

I am baffled by this decision. You are the expert on *you*. If you feel you need therapy, how can they say you don't. It's one thing to 'do' well but it doesn't mean we aren't struggling or that things are all hunky dory.

I'm surprised your T isn't more... aware of this.

Counseling has 3 elements - remedial, preventive and educative/developmental. Perhaps your T is only comfortable providing a remedial treatment?
