I’m just about a month into my job at McDonald’s. Even though this is my 2nd time, I’m still subject to 30 day probationary period. I’ve been working hard and am nice to everyone. I’ve never called in and even been available to cover people’s shifts. I don’t screw around (e.g. joke about pee, *****, like, and sex) nor have I had emotional meltdowns. I leave after my shift and never showed up on my days off unless to check schedule, which was only twice so far.
However, here are my following screw ups. 1. I left my drink on front counter bc I didn’t know not to. However, I stopped after I was told to. 2. I worked 7 hours without a break. When my supervisor apologized for not giving me that break, I said it’s cool and then asked for free food. He said he’ll just pay for my food with his own money, which I accepted. 3. A lady drove up to drive thru window with her dog. I ran over to the window and the dog aggressively barked at me possibly bc I scared it. 4. Whenever a customer transaction needed a manager override, I shouted that I need an override, word for word. 5. I built a pyramid out of sauces when it was slow. I did it twice and never did it again. 6. I took my discount during my break but it was just a drink. After my shift ended, I ordered a sandwich and requested another discount. Normally employees only get discount during break. My supervisor asked didn’t I already get a discount? I said yes but it’s just a drink. He gave me the discount for the sandwich. It was those kind of screw ups. Idk what to expect now. |

You'll probably be fine. I was fired for not knowing my mcjob after the thirty days. I got less than forty hours that month and nobody really wanted me to work there, especially me

I hope I’m fine. How didn’t you know your job? Just curious. I hope I know mine sufficiently.

It truly depends from employer to employer. It can be more than only about detailed wrongs or rights or flub ups. It can be about being a good fit or not for the environment.
I've personally only seen a not a good fit once or twice. The most recent was understandable due to a recent traumatic event. It wasn't that there was deep pain it was lack of ability to focus. The door remained open for future consideration. |

Will these fvck ups affect my performance, then? Or are they relatively minor?

ruby, Is there any opportunity for you to work in a place that isn't corporate? For example, a locally-owned business...like a cafe? Personally, I couldn't stand to work in a corporate environment. But I worked in a funky, locally-owned coffeehouse for 13 years and loved it. And nobody cared if someone said "pee" or whatever. I don't know where you live...is every business corporate where you are?

It might surprise you, but McDonald's are locally owned. Yes it's a chain, but it's a privately owned chain.
We're digressing though. I think you're probably fine. Just be chill and see what happens. |

None of those mistakes sounds drastic but I’d make sure I dont repeat them again. You don’t need to be perfect, you do need to demonstrate that you are following the rules and learning.

I’m glad thx. Also relieved. Yesterday during breakfast, we had an order of 2 Big Breakfast. While I tried to put them on the tray, one of the Big Breakfast fell apart. I went, “Help me! Fell apart!” Almost shouted it tbh. Then after it’s put together, I tried to carry the tray during which one fell on the floor. I called his name and walked fast to the back to get a drink bc I felt like I was freaking out. They had to remake the food and clean up after me. I felt like crap. I came back all calm and went about my day as usual.
Just a moment before that, there was a $12 order that I forgot to collect on. I was so tired I was barely functional. I hope these 2 incidents weren’t drastic. |

Are your shifts long? I wonder if you
Qualify for extra breaks. It’s hard to work long hours in food service and retail. |

On your original list it seems like the supervisor forgetting to give you a break is not your fault and also the dog barking at the drive thru is not your fault so those are not counted as screw ups. I don’t even know if all the other things you listed in original message count as screw ups especially since you did not do them again after you were told. With those things I would think you are fine. I would maybe just say try not to make it a habit of asking for free food or additional discounts on food. It’s nice that the supervisor bought you the meal for you that one time-I suppose he/she felt bad about forgetting the break, but I would just try not to ask anymore if you can help it. As far as your reactions to the tray falling or breaking-maybe you can talk with your therapist or caseworker on how to better manage your reactions in the moment. I would also go with what see-saw said and maybe take initiative and ask them if there is anything that needs improvement, but so far it does not seem like you did anything horrible enough to be fired.

That is just my opinion-I am not them, but if I were them I would not fire you for anything you’ve listed so far on this thread. Good luck.

Sounds like you are really learning from previous jobs and doing well.
I do agree don’t ask for free food. __________________ Helping others gets me out of my own head ~ |
