I'm a big student of body language, but there's one gesture I can't seem to find anywhere on the web or any expert talking about it. It's regarding the scratching of the side of the mouth. This typically happens when someone looks at you and immediately use their index finger to lightly scratch the side of their mouths between the jaw bone and the outer lip in that area. I have a feeling it means the person is 'curious' about something or judging in someway. I had a girl I Liked very much do this once and I had a feeling it was a good sign because I knew for sure she always liked me. If anyone has any input, please let me know, but I think it's a combination of someone being 'curious' and 'judging' in a beneficial way towards you that they like what they see.

Open to other suggestions. Thanks in advance.

As I understand it's a curious sort of habit as you've already said. I think of emojis with such poses where the hand is where you described and they're always used in a curious/wondering manner. It may or may not be good or even neutral, it would depend on the person and the situation I think.

I'm not great at social queues though, so take what I've said with a grain of salt. :p

I wish I paid attention to and understood body language more. I’m too scatterbrained in the moment to take everything in. That said, I believe in instinct and gut feelings because usually it’s right. So go with your gut feeling on it. I’m sure you’ll have the opportunity to observe this gesture in real life and confirm what you think it is. I’ll be noticing it now for sure.

I think it's just something some people do when they're trying to gather their thoughts, rather than stare blankly into outer space.
