IDK if this is the right place or not to ask this but i need to do it anyway.
So before getting to the question here is some background about me. SO I am a 17yo high-school student from India.Computer Geek (But i am open to any kind of knowledge and i keep reading about stuff ) Highly interested in politics and a wannabe entrepreneur. So Here is my question So there are people who talk to them self but its little different in my case I dont have convos with myself but I talk to other people.Like i imagine being into an interview/seminar and i am answering the questions or i am giving a speech for a political campaign etc etc.So i am always talking to other people I dont have good relation with my parents (Personal Issues) and i have a GF ( ps -- she is my life's first and only crush ) i love her alot and i love her family too...more than i love my family..so sometimes i imagine that we both have grown up and i am with her family..spending some quality time..helping her mother in kitchen and things like that...cooking for them and all...so it keeps hapening..and by "imagine" i dont mean that i force myself to that state of mind..it happens automatically..like i am studying and talking..cooking and talking...there is not any fixed situation when this happens...it happens anytime...sometimes i am just sitting in the chair talking to myself and my legs automatically start walking towards the bathroom and then i am inside locked myslef in standing in front of the mirror and talking and my voice is not loud..its loud enough so that only i can her myslef..even my lips dont move when ther are people around me .SO is all this normal...or should i be worried about it? [PS- i prefer being alone..i dont go out..i am always in my room studying or coding...maybe this could give you some idea about me]. Thanks |

Perhaps its not normal. But what is the impact it has on your life? Positive? Negative? What function does it serve? If it's not harmful in anyway, i don't think you have much to be concerned about. When did this start?

Hello AYNHLN,
it sounds like you have a vivid and active imagination. Nothing wrong with that. The scenes and images you play out in your mind seem to suggest a desire for connection and closeness. Should you be worried? I don't think so. I think it's only a problem if this gets in the way of your ability to function. If you get up every day and do what you need to do, I don't see a problem. It may be helpful to think about whether you have balance in your life. Balance is very important for all of us. If these ideas continue to concern you, I recommend discussing them with an experienced psychologist. I wish you peace and a bright future |

Hello AYNHLN,
I hope you don't mind that I took a look at your profile. You mentioned bipolar disorder. Is that something you are diagnosed with? That changes things a little bit with regard to your post. I recommend talking to your doctor about what you posted. I'm concerned that you could be describing a form of mania or an indicator that you need more help managing your bipolar disorder. Good health to you. |

sounds like you're a person that needs to rehearse or "play out" situations actively and not just in your mind. No one anywhere can tell you definitively if this is "normal" or not. But the question really is, why does it concern you? Ask yourself this question first but in addition to that, does it disrupt the other areas of your life in such a way that it's causing problems at all? If not, I wouldn't even worry about it. If it affects your life or relationship with others to the extent that things are problematic or others are concerned for you, then sure, I'd pursue finding a therapist.
I personally have entire conversations in my head of imaginary situations where I am playing out what I would say and hope the others would say etc.. it's just not active but it's not really a huge jump to actually acting out the situations verbally and I honestly (just my opinion) it's not weird. Again, if it's not disruptive to your day to day activities, it's fine. |

I always try to look at the whole picture with a person's health and wellness. Bipolar seems to be part of AYNHLN's whole picture since he mentioned it on his profile. If AYNHLN is open to it, he and his doctor could figure out if there's a concern or not. "Sometimes i am just sitting in the chair talking to myself and my legs automatically start walking towards the bathroom and then i am inside locked myself in standing in front of the mirror and talking." This could be something worth exploring with a doctor.
As with everyone else on PC, these are my thoughts from a place of care and regard. None of us are doctors or therapists. AYNHLN and other posters do not have to agree with me. And I know that it is against community guidelines to argue on threads so peace to all! |

I'd say it's pretty normal, AYNHLN! I agree with what all the others have already wisely said better than I ever could. I'll try not to repeat it too much. I believe you just have an active imagination. There's nothing wrong with that! The only problemd would be if this is interfering with your daily activities. If it does, I'd suggest to talk to a doctor about this and see how it goes from there. I'd say it becomes a problem worth exploring in that case. If you're still able to do your daily routine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Having an active imagination can be a very good thing! Remember that we're here for you if you need it. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you, AYNHLN

I actually do that too. I always felt weird. I imagine conversations in my mind like how they would be. I always felt self conscious about it.
