I did not really know where to put this thread, but I chose here. Has anyone read the Psych Central article on Gas Lighting tactics that narcissists use? Describes my father in each paragraph. My mother was as well to a point, but not quite as bad. My mother used the "I never said that" or, "I don't remember saying anything like that". Interesting report. Anyone else's thoughts?

I had a friend who I think was a narcissist. Her gaslighting made me so unsure of myself that I needed to have my mother and gf read our text conversations to make sure that I wasn't perceiving things weirdly. She projected all of her faults onto me, it was maddening and crazy, and she would not take accountability for her actions.
Notice, I said I 'had' a friend. Could not deal with her anymore and after distance am realizing what a shitshow being her friend was. |

Gaslighting makes confrontation and conflict resolution absolutely impossible. It takes two to work things out, but when you get dismissed as needing counseling or too sensitive, it blocks the road to a further conversation.
Gaslighting can happen in very subtle ways also. Some people are not overt as to say "You are crazy." Good actors could easily act concerned and say that they are concerned about your mental health. I love Shahida's articles on PC. They are highly informative. |
