So in a previous post I talked about my mom living off my disability money and when I talked to the lady at my other counseling place on Jan. 3rd, I asked her to have the money put into my name. But just today when I went to see the nurse, I saw my doctor who was supposed to fill out a form and she told me that she didn’t think I was competent to handle my OWN *******ED MONEY, so now I’m gonna have to schedule yet another ****ING appointment tomorrow with the lady who’s supposed to help me out with my disability and I’m gonna have to fill out YET ANOTHER form saying that I want it in the hands of an organization instead of my own. The only good news is that my mom doesn’t keep it. The bad news is how am I gonna get it? If I’m not receiving the check, how am I going to receive it every month? Through the mail? Do I have to go up to the place that’s holding my money’s office every month and get on my hands and knees and beg them for it? What am I supposed to do? My doctor doesn’t even think I’m competent in handling money. Jesus ****ing Christ I’m so pissed off. I’ve had to suffer long enough. Jesus Christ. I am SCREAMING right now until my throat is getting sore. I swear to god I’m going to kill myself. I don’t want to live here for one more day. I don’t even know how long this process is going to take. I am so ****ing miserable right now and I have been miserable every day for the last 10 months over this.

I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

Simple answer to your questions. Just ask the organization how they will give it to you. They will be able to answer you.

Hugs.

Hang in there @ChargedInfluence, you're obviously doing your best under very difficult circumstances. Keep going, don't lose hope, and things will eventually change for the better, you'll see.

So I just got back from my appointment today and she told me that I would have to ask them for a certain amount of money every week and they would give it to me for my basic needs. I told her that I needed to get away from my home situation as soon as possible, and she said that I’ll be seeing a lady in 5 more days to help me get into a group home so I can wait there while I’m put on a waiting list for a subsidized apartment. It didn’t go as bad as expected thankfully and I’ve got a lot done since Nov. 25th of last year. But I’ve still been quite upset even still because at the end of the day I’m still stuck in the same home environment.

Sounds like good progress!

Things like that rarely go as fast as we'd like unfortunately, but that's life. Hang in there, and don't forget to keep us informed how it goes. Good or bad. You can always talk and/or vent here.

I think living in a group home will give you a better sense of making your own decisions. It is helpful to have others around who may share some of your concerns/difficulties.
Good for you for speaking up for yourself! ((((((hug)))

having an agency controlling your disability for a bit if you are in a group home will help you save for a deposit if you need one for a rental. it also helps you realize exactly what funds you can call essential to exist on . don't look at it as a crisis but as something that will help in the long run...the saved cash from your monthly check should roll over into a nice amount for you to use when you are ready to. maybe not the best situation right now..but might be in the long run.
