Default family issues

Iím going through a divorce. My wife and I decided to end it this year after working on it for the 16 years we were together. I moved in with my mom who has memory and hearing loss.

Last year my dad died. My sister arrived from out of state and was upset with me for being depressed. We had a confrontation, and she believes I injured her, though mom who was there and I disagree. Iíve tried to talk to my sister, but she hung up on me.

Iím depressed and anxious from family issues. Iíve tried therapy and medications over several years and neither have helped.

Hi aperson, welcome to PC. Well, your father passed a year ago, your wife and you are getting a divorce, and your mother is mentally declining. I think it's understandable you would be depressed from all that stress and loss. Your sister should be understanding but it appears she's too worried about herself and her own issues.

The only thing you can do at this point is distance from your sister's negativity and concentrate on taking care of yourself and getting rest. If we have life changing events medication can help with the anxiety, but it can't remove the challenges we deal with. All you can do is practice patience with yourself, take things one day at a time and try not to solve all the problems all at once as that's impossible for anyone. We all have to deal with major life challenges by learning how to move forward one day at a time.

I'm sorry you are struggling with all of this. And, unfortunately, I don't think I can be of any help. But I wanted to let you know I read your post... & I wish you well.

There used to be a poster that showed a figure (I think it may have been a cat) dangling from the end of a rope. The caption read something like: "If you find yourself at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." Sometimes, I think, that's about the best we can do...
Speak only if you can improve upon the silence.
