More Information

Antidepressant medications are used to treat a variety of conditions, including depression and other mental/mood disorders. These medications can help prevent suicidal thoughts/attempts and provide other benefits. However, studies have shown that a small number of people (especially children/teenages) who take antidepressants for any condition may experience worsening depression, other mental/mood symptoms, or suicidal thoughts/attempts. Therefore, it is very important to talk with a doctor about the risks and benefits of antidepressant medication, even if the treatment is not for a mental condition. Tell your doctor immediatley if you notice worsening depression, unusual behavior changes, (including possible suicidal thoughts/attempts), or other mental/mood changes. Be especially watchful for these symptoms when a new antidepressant is started or when the dose is changed.

PROS: The best SSRI for my social anxiety, very fast onset of effects I started feeling this drug within 2 days of starting it
CONS: Lots of side effects, and has serious interactions with caffiene (and other drugs)

I took this drug for my rather profound social anxiety, and it was the BEST drug (barring the benzodiazepines or alcohol) I've taken. The side effects were moderately annoying (sweating, stomachache, insomnia, food/drug interactions) but the efficacy of this drug made them worth it. I'd recommend anyone taking this drug to look up all the drug interactions, because there are some pretty important ones, including caffeine, that doctors aren't always familiar with (no one, not the pharmacist, my psychiatrist, family doc, no one) told me that a few cups of coffee would keep me jittery for 2 days, and I kept on getting prescribed things that would have major interactions, that I had to catch (like cyclobenzaprine, and then diazepam for muscle spasm....both have major interactions)

PROS: it works
CONS: none

I usually order approved pills by americantrustpills (seriously, this place sucks) free of danger. Sad to say I use to take plenty of it so low price is vital for me.

PROS: Only drug out there specifically for OCD
CONS: Not a really effective anti-depressant

This SSRI is the only one that targets OCD specifically and has helped me tremendously with my pure OCD, mainly just ruminations. It has gone out of style because it's quite old. I take the CR form and at night because it makes me quite sleepy. I usually take this with another antidepressant because it's not very effective at lifting my moods. The dosing schedule will vary greatly from person to person and a high dose is needed to combat OCD.

PROS: helps paranoia
CONS: dry mouth, decreased libido

Luvox has decreased my obsessive/paranoid thinking. It's definitely not gone, but I believe it less and care about it less. It works better than any other med I've tried for this purpose. It's not perfect though; my sex drive is basically gone which contributed to the breakup of my last relationship.

PROS: nothing
CONS: doesn't work

tried it for 4 months, increased up to 200mg. Worsened my depression, had suicidal ideation at higher dose and manic symptoms at lower doses. Slightly reduced my panic attacks but couldnt deal with worsening depression. Came off it and feel better.

PROS:
CONS:

ive been on these for about 3 months and seem to be working very well. i would stay away from alcohol with these because they can create a whole new world of pain. but when you look at it if you suffer depression the last thing you need is another depression drug in body which alcohol is. as said there are many on the market so if your friend has any problems see the doc.

PROS: Eliminated obsessions, ended headaches, freed from depressive symptoms.
CONS: Drowsiness, constant yawning, sexual dysfunction.

This drug saved my life in 1995. After 1 year of extreme depressive symptoms, obsessions, and unwanted thoughts, Luvox changed my life forever. It helped me recognize my obsessive symptoms and deal with the "after-thought" by ending the "punch" in the chest that usually followed my mind's continual unwanted thoughts. After 3 1/2 years, talk therapy, and learning new coping skills, I weaned off of the drug gradually, with my doctor's approval. I'm happy to say that I went 7 years without it and did very well, but due to some devastating incidents in my life, I went back on meds in late 2006. (Prozac, low dose 20mg) with no extreme side affects.

PROS: great drug for depression..........
CONS: none that I've seen so far..........

I have been taking Luvox for about a year now and the results are amazing. I feel like a new person now with the right combination of therapies. I spent the better part of my life searching for answers that never seem to come about myself. Now I think I understand. I am in control, not the disease. As long as I am taking my meds. I am in full control and feel better than I have in three centuries!! Hooray for the marvels of modern medicines.

PROS:
CONS: dizziness, migraine pain, lack of appetite, increased depression

This medication was tried for a short period of time. I was dealing with nausea & weight loss prior to this med, & when I started using it, the feelings continued. Added to the continued nausea & weight loss was the increased migraine pain & dizziness. My depression feelings also seemed to be increasing once the med was started. Since previous dizziness indicated decreased blood pressure, this med seemed to be repeating previous problems & my pdoc agreed that I should stop taking it.

PROS: Does not cause drowsiness, seems to help with compulsive behaviors
CONS:

Although it is kind of expensive, it is a great drug for treating OCD in my opinion. I have not had any side effects, and while it did not "cure" my compulsions, it helped to reduce them.
