I have been on adrenal with Wellbutrin, Xanex and ability for a decade. Without it, I cannot function. Tried to go off a few times and was either falling asleep by noon or sinking to a withdrawal from humanity phase. If I then take it, my energy improves dramatically but I find myself totally irritated with everything and everyone sometimes, My patience for others becomes zero but my patience with my work *accountant" improves, Honestly not sure why with my ADD I ever got into accounting...l..

I've taken Adderall XR, which is supposed to be the equivalent of two half-size instant-release doses taken four hours apart. (I think, in practice, the release tends to be more gradual than that.) The smallest dose I've taken is 5mg XR and the largest is 15mg XR.
I normally have attention problems, working memory problems, and initiation problems, and Adderall does a good job of getting rid of all of those, but only for the first three months or so. After that time, it stops working for initiation but still works for attention and working memory problems. In order to have it keep helping with initiation, I need to raise the dose or abstain from the med for 2+ weeks. (Skipping one day every week doesn't seem to work.)
The side effects are mild at the doses I've taken, but the cardiovascular side effects are the reason I haven't raised the dose to a level that would be more effective. The med has withdrawal effects, but they are only a slight nuisance.
The extended release pill is easily affected by gastrointestinal pH, so I've had to be careful about what I eat. If I eat the wrong thing, the medicine becomes ineffective and I'll even feel withdrawal effects. I have GERD, so other people will probably have to be less careful than me.

Sorry, I needed to ask this question (obviously not a review). Does anyone take Adderall for Bipolar Disorder or in combination with anti-depressants? My doctor won't prescribe because of my history of drug abusive (yet not prescribing encourages me to look for street drugs...doctors geesh) but the meds I'm on I gain weight and feel no motivation or concentration. Obviously, Adderall gives people motivation and concentration. What is the point of my Doctor being worried about drug abuse when he has the power on how much to give me and the fact I got to be on damaging Bipolar meds for the rest of my life anyway. I'm sick of this.

I tried 2 times to be short and to the point with the drug. Its pro's its cons.. Which there are both... every time I begin to explain i realize I'm typing a novel... If someone has been diag'd with ADD and is interested in this medication feel free to msg me. There are many ppl online that have a higher learning of sorts about this medication.. For me, I will explain it in a blunt way.. Because im far from having higher intelligence. I have been taking it for 6 yrs. I'm not in my teens. I'm 35 . I believe I know this drug inside and out and can explain this in a very NON PC way..
I've abused it.. BADLY.. However, that was years ago. I educated myself on how to get the amazing effects back by NOT abusing it.. I can explain how your life will most likely change for the better. And not just a little better. BUT A LOT.. I'm sure for some it wont work the same for.... I do 'think' I know why but again, im not a dr. just a bird brain
With all that being said. And understanding how to "hack" this drug to where you don't abuse and allow it to work, I will say that right now it is HANDS DOWN the best drug there is... It can improve so many things.. Plus making you simply love life....
Some may read this and totally disagree. As I said, there are several things to be explained and understood..
Adderall will go down as the ORIGINAL miracle drug... If you research anything related to these kinds of advanced "smart drugs" research as far as our military etc, you will see that it all stems from amphetamine's . Its not perfect. But with what we have to choose from it almost is.
There are a few other meds I've been reading about that I believe will surpass adderall soon.. But if you take ritalin, vyvance, concerta or whatever other lame thing they throw your way, just flush it.....
Thank you for taking the time to read. I'm very happy I decided to join this community.. In just one day I'm amazed at the pure kindness and support ppl have given me. I also see this sincere concern for ppl truly struggling in their lives. The responses I see to other posters have been amazing.. ... I wish all of you the best.
My apologies if there are times when reading something I post is a bit rough. Grammatically etc. Even with adderall I'm always in a rush... to go where? who knows

Oh Adderal...how I love you. Life on Adderall has turned me into Superwoman. I feel like I can do ANYTHING that I put my mind to and I often succeed at those things. My weight is exactly where I want it to be also because I dont crave fatty foods. This drug unlocks something in my brain that I cant explain. Something that gives me an intense drive to reach my goals. It is truly amazing.
But...when im NOT on it; all i want to do is sleep and lay around, i gain more weight, im anxious in social situations, i lack motivation for everything, my room and car are a mess, i cant focus on anything that doesnt interest me, and I get very depressed. So...I hope my doctor never tells me that I have to stop taking it because I dont know what i'll do.
Every rose has its thorn, I guess.

This product has helped me in ways I never knew . When I was diagnosed with ADHD it seems as if there was a void in my brain I knew existed but with this medication after 15 months on 20mgs in the AM and 20mgs 6-8 hrs later. I find my work and study habits as well as increased to the utmost standard of processing and completing my efficiency at work and ability to study and test well. Not to mention my Marriage, I could barely stay focused or listen to my wife, always blamed it on "insensitivity", now being able to explore this with my wife and ability to connect and really listen to her worries and what she has to say has increased our lives infinite amounts.

I use this at the end of the day after my Vyvanse wears off. I much prefer slow-release drugs like Vyvanse to immediate-release drugs like Adderall. It gets me back to attention when the slow-release drug wears off after 6-9 hours. Sometimes, I will take it in the morning if I have a hard time getting up. It works very well for getting me out of bed when I NEED to be out of bed quickly.

I've been taking Adderall XR 20 for approx. 3 yrs. I'm noticing a decline in ability to concentrate; unable to multi-task or remain focused for long. Also, noticing short term memory has changed where I'm forgetting things I didn't before. I'm seeing my Dr. tomorrow-he may suggest a higher dose, since this particular med. has shown to be helpful for me.

I'm currently 17 and a junior in high school. I have an unweighted GPA of 4.8, taking 7 classes a day, 5 of those AP. I'm ranked third in my graduating class, and I'm working at a local preschool. However, my freshman year at age 14, my life was falling apart. I could never finish my assignments, much less turn them in on time, and my parents were tearing their hair out from the stress I was causing them. Finally, my school counselor had me tested for ADHD - I was off the charts. My doctor put me on Vyvanse, but it wouldn't last me past noon, even on the highest dose, because I had to take it at 4am to be alert and focused for my 5:30am class. So, they prescribed me 5mg of Adderal- it worked wonders. However, I did rapidly lose about 40lbs over the course of 2 months because of my decreased appetite. Had I not kept careful track of what and how much I was eating, I would've been at severe risk of malnourishment. Overall, though, this medication works pretty well, both with another medication, and by itself (I just take 30mg on the weekends - I don't need to focus so hard when I'm only awake for 9 hours a day). Just be cautioned - it is a stimulant, so it's a controlled substance in most states, and it's easily abused. It also affects sleeping patterns, and may contribute to insomnia.

I have Bipolar Type 1 and my psychiatrist (who is now in jail)put me on 80mg a day. I do not have ADHD. My mood was so unstable and I was manic for the whole year I was on it, nearly ruined my life. Thankfully I am not on it anymore. I know that I am not suppose to be on Adderall but I now see that it really truly does help people who do need it. Great medication, just not for me.

Started Ritalin for ADD 1 year ago. Recently switched to see if Adderal was more effective, I believe it is. I am on 20mg a day - but to decrease side effects I split the tablet in half and take them 1-2 hours apart. Does not last all day, and I don't notice any decrease in appetite. I DO notice improvement on information recollection, focus, and conversation skills.

It works great but effective dosage is about 5 times the max recommended dose, therefore a month's supply will only allow one about 3 good days/mo.

I don't have ADHD or ADD (not that I know of anyway) but my psychiatrist prescribed Adderall to me to help with my lack of motivation and concentration that comes with my severe depression. From the very first dose of Adderall I was cheerful, motivated and got done what I needed to be done. I've been taking it since April and I feel more like myself when I take it. I'm on a very low dose twice a day, so the only side effects that really bothered me were the sweats, but those went away. Plus, I lost weight when I went on it. No complaints there!

I take this medication as prescribed. I am a 35 year old high school teacher and Adderall has changed my life. During college I was labeled as slow or dumb because I had a hard time focusing. I would find myself daydreaming often, looking around the classroom at others, and thinking about what I had to do after class rather than focusing on the instructor. I also lost my basketball scholarship because I wasn't focused on the plays in practice, instead I was thinking about what homework I had to do for what classes and always making a mental list. I was never learning the basketball plays because I couldn't focus, which made me look like I sucked! It wasn't until I saw a psychiatrist for depression and anxiety that I told him about my past and history with focus and attention. When I first started teaching I would lose my train of thought while teaching, because my mind would be racing and I would ask my class, "what was I talking about again?" The Adderall is now impossible to get because people are abusing it and using it for the wrong reasons. I can take 15mg and take a nap. It helps me focus, it does not act like "cocaine", "meth" or any other illegal stimulant is has been compared to. If you feel this speed like affect, then you DO NOT HAVE ADD and unfortunately I cannot get what is medically necessary for me to take. Thank you to the drug abusers for affecting those who truly need it to function!!

I am a twenty year old female and I have taken Adderal for seven years. It does what it is supposed to do.My grades increased in school. Helps me focus and complete tasks and helps organize how I do things and my surroundings. Although I tend to make things more complicated by over thinking. I have horrible insomnia from either taking it too late in the day or over focusing on the computer or other things. Experienced weight loss and then weight gain after the dosage leveled out. I worry about the physical side effects the amphetamines are doing to me and possible future medical conditions. Friends often joke about my behavior as being on meth or crack. It does what it's supposed to do but the side effects can easily become a problem and when mixed with other substances can easily be abused.

I have been taking this drug for about two years, now. I am now noticing that it does not provide the aids in many activities as it used to a year ago. Last year, I would do my homework, use my time wisely in class, wake up nicely, and stay quiet and respectable when the situation calls for it. Because I have been taking it for so long, I am noticing that it doesn't wake me up like it used to, my time management is getting progressively worse, I am beginning not to care so much about school, my grades have dropped a significant amount, and it no longer supresses my appitite. At first, it was great, and it still is considering that I would fail school due to my lack of ability to concentrate, but the effects do not last forever, even if the dosage is increased, unfortunatly. All in all, I would recommend it for those struggling to concentrating or behaving properly in school. Just don't be too reliant on it, because although it seems as if it does nearly everything after beginning the medicine, it will not last forever.

headaches

I've been to therapist after therapist, psychiatrist after psychiatrist and the diagnosis of ADD was never even considered. I finally found a doctor who listened as well as observed and tested extensively. The XR version of this medication gave me headaches, but oddly the XR version of many meds give me headaches. I am on a high dose, 30 mg 3x a day. However I went from a complete inability to function, complete projects, assignments, work, etc... to functional and organized. Traumas since have made my life more difficult again but without this med, I can't begin to imagine the level of difficulty it could spiral into.

PROS:
|
increased patience, confidence, feel more calm, less anxiety, less anger
|
CONS:
|
doesn't seem to help with focus, major appetite suppression, horrible breath, insomnia at first
|
|
I'm only 3 weeks into trying this med. Prescribed 10mg twice a day. Seems I can only take one 10mg pill once a day. One pill makes me feel good - calm, confident, patient, much less angry with a longer fuse, less incidence of snapping on people. However, the second dose, even if it's only half, makes me feel nervous and terrible for hours! I do not have ANY interest in eating whatsoever after taking it. Some days I can't bring myself to eat anything - but, on days I don't take it my appetite is entirely normal. Also, on days I take it my breath is HORRIBLE. However, that's the negative - here's the positive: after taking it within 30 mins I feel warm, confident, calm, patient (a huge improvement!), and my anger is significantly decreased. I have not noticed any improvement in focus/concentration - I am going to give it more time...

PROS:

Increased concentration, able to think more clearly
|
CONS:
|
Powerful appetite suppressant, lack of emotions and creativity
|
|
Initially Adderall gave me a euphoric, high feeling. I was able to concentrate for up to 8 hours non-stop after a single dose. Over time the effect started to wear off, and I had to increase my dose. I have been prescribed Adderall for almost a year, and now I am to the point where it does have a moderate effect on my ability to concentrate, but I am still prone to being distracted. Taking a few day break from Adderall seems to reduce my tolerance slightly.
Adderall has always been a very powerful appetite suppressant for me, but recently I have been noticing that while taking Adderall I feel like my emotions are very neutral. I don't feel very happy or very sad, even at times when I should. I also feel like my creativity and sense of humor are greatly reduced while taking Adderall.

PROS:
|
intense concentration, usually makes me happy, more energy, decrease in appetite, exits body quickly and completely
|
CONS:
|
decrease in appetite, dry mouth, occasionally jittery, temporary shrunken testicles, non-xr formula doesn't last long
|
|
i have tried concerta, vyvanse, ritalin and strattera and none of them work as well as adderall. it helps me focus, no matter what. as long as i don't take too much, or am too tired before i take it, i am rarely jittery. it is excellent for keeping me awake and giving me more energy.
the only negatives are the decrease in appetite that causes intense crashes when it wears off (when you come down AND you haven't eaten it is not pleasant) and if i take it too late in the day i have trouble sleeping. oh and also, it increases your heart rate slightly, and as an adrenal response in men, it pulls up your testicles (as if you were cold). as soon as it wears off, they go back to normal, but it is kinda weird having them seem so small for a while.
highly recommended.

PROS:

Straight A's in school, much more organized, much less impulsive, much more motivated
|
CONS:
|
Feel worried all the time, somewhat depressed, some stomach aches
|
|
I have been taking Adderall XR 30mg for about a month. I switched from Adderall XR 20mg after taking that for about a month because it stopped working (doctor said I might have built an immunity). I have decided that the side effects outweigh the positive effects by far and it is not worth taking it. I feel fine for the 1st 2 hours, then I start feeling really worried, and somewhat depressed and anxious. I can't stop asking myself what's wrong. I am normally really happy, I just don't do very good in school and I am very impulsive. I have been taking add meds since kindergarten (I'm 21). I mostly took ritalin the whole time. I know every drug effects everyone differently, and obviously amphetamine is going to make anyone more motivated and focused, but I honestly think Adderall is nearly as bad as smoking crack. I definitely need some kind of help with my schooling and my impulsivity, but it's not worth feeling like crap all the time! BUT it might work for some people since like I said it effects everyone differently, so I wouldn't say don't try it out, but I would suggest trying ritalin, concerta, maybe wellbutrin, or something a little less stimulating first. And be careful because it is addicting and you can get high off of it, and that's a hard place to get out of.

I had been on Adderall for four years, until my doctor wanted to put me on Focalin. It made me feel high and I didn't like the effects on me.Also, it made me feel depressed, finally my good doctor put me back unto adderall and it made me feel a heck of alot better. It is a great product for ADHD if people don't abuse it.

Easy to get Addicted to.
|

I take Adderal from a friend here and there to get me through a bad day. It makes me feel very happy, and lets me focus on things, I am also ten times more productive.
The problem is that when I feel this way I want to keep feeling this way. So obviously it is easy to get addicted to if you aren't careful about how much you take.
I would recommend this to anyone beyond those who get addicted easily.

Difficult to sleep -- effects wear off beyond 12 hours

Adderall has been great for me so far. I've been on it for 3 weeks for Bipolar II because of concentration and focus issues. Turns out I may have mild ADD as well. The drug is really helping me get more done and have a full, productive day. Before I would spend many hours in the evening in front of the TV, as if my brain was exhausted. I am feeling very alert now. I am hoping it will help some of the social anxiety I have had as well. The only problem is, I feel alert pretty much all the time. I have trouble sleeping without sleep aids, and often wake up way too early in the morning. I'd be curious to know if others who have experienced this --and if this side effect subsided with time.

lasts too long, no appetite, come down is annoying but manageable

Ok so adderall is probably the most consistent drug in regards to effectiveness to side effects. With XR though, I am able to focus through out the day and its great, however, some days I just want the effects of it to stop. It's nice to feel focused and have clear thoughts, but it gets annoying with XR. I am always analyzing my situation and society in general when I’m doing something unrelated to school—or anything else for that matter that doesn’t distract my mind (like driving or relaxing on the computer) and sometimes, I just want the effects of adderall to end. Has anyone else had this problem and if you have, did u switch to the shorter acting adderall and did that help?

enabled me to concentrate, helped overcome some social anxiety, greatly aided me during school and work

CONS:

"high" feeling makes it addictive, continuously had to increase dosage to maintain effectiveness, makes relaxing very difficult, expensive
|
|
While Adderall worked, and quite well, for many years, as my body became more and more accustomed to it, I required higher doses. I found myself wanting to take another dose as soon as the initial high feeling wore off. I was on Adderall and eventually Adderall XR for almost 8 years and decided after much concern over being too dependent on it (and the increased cost due to both increased dosage and then lack of health insurance) to give something else (Vyvanse) a try. If well managed and carefully monitored, Adderall can be a very beneficial medication to treat ADD and ADHD.

One of the best drugs to treat ADHD; has a smooth release mechanism which reduces feelings of depression; increases bodily energy tremendously; if you're pressed for time in terms of school, then this drug's for you.
|
CONS:
|
Extremely addictive; easy tendency to develop tolerance; causes dehydration.
|
|
One of the best drugs to treat ADHD. It is known for decreasing the amount of "ups-and-downs" that you commonly experience with methylphenidate drugs, such as Ritalin (the worst drug for ADHD). It is extremely effective in shutting your mouth up as well helping your focus. In the initial time that you take it, you might experience "hyper-focus". Trust me, this will end quickly (within a week or two). You'll then develop tolerance and lose the effectiveness it once portrayed. The addictiveness starts when you feel like increasing your dosage to achieve the same effect you experienced when first taking it.
