More Information

Antidepressant medications are used to treat a variety of conditions, including depression and other mental/mood disorders. These medications can help prevent suicidal thoughts/attempts and provide other benefits. However, studies have shown that a small number of people (especially children/teenages) who take antidepressants for any condition may experience worsening depression, other mental/mood symptoms, or suicidal thoughts/attempts. Therefore, it is very important to talk with a doctor about the risks and benefits of antidepressant medication, even if the treatment is not for a mental condition. Tell your doctor immediatley if you notice worsening depression, unusual behavior changes, (including possible suicidal thoughts/attempts), or other mental/mood changes. Be especially watchful for these symptoms when a new antidepressant is started or when the dose is changed.

PROS: long half life, means mild (if any) withdrawal if suddenly stopped (or doses are missed)
CONS: long half life, with CYP2D6 enzyme inhibition, means a looooooong period of drug interactions

Prozac has been one of the more "upper" types of SSRI's that I have been prescribed. It has an interaction with my Adderall (CYP2D6 enzyme inhibitor); this means that the effects of Adderall last much longer than they would ordinarily. However, even with the increased side effects of Adderall, I prefer the Prozac over any of the other SSRI's because I have a tendency to forget doses, and its long half life means that I don't get the brain zaps after 1 and a half day without taking it.

PROS: Reduces obsessive thinking and some anxiety, very little side-effects aside from anorgasmia, easy to taper off of.
CONS: Ineffective for depression (studies show it does no better than a light box). Ineffective for Bulimia

Prescribed at 15 for severe depression and anxiety. Was fairly ineffective with both of those things.

PROS: none
CONS: extreme side effects

This medication did not work well with me. It made me more irritable and restless, and I had serious side effects that forced me to stop taking it early.

PROS: works on anxiety
CONS: doesn't work on depression

The medication works so incredibly differently for everyone that it's hard to say I would recommend it. It didn't make me any less suicidal. My anxiety has been calmer since I've been on this medication, but missing even a single dose causes extreme anxiety and mood changes. I do have to say that, for me, it works a lot better with my system than Zoloft did but it did effect my energy levels. I found myself more tired but not able to sleep. Getting off the medicine is awful even if there is still some in your system.

PROS: Helped with my depression
CONS: Severe acid reflux/heartburn

This medication really helped a lot with my depression, I loved it. I had to go off of it though because it gave me horrible acid reflux/heartburn. I don't know why.

PROS: relief of depressive & OCD symptoms
CONS: none

I have been on Prozac twice in the last few years-I've had no negative side effects. I take it for depression & OCD & it works very well for me. No jaw clenching or sexual side effects which were problems I had with other AD.

PROS: Works on depression for a while
CONS: Body gets used to it after a few years, causes heartburn

It worked on me for about 2-3 years, then I started feeling worse than I did before. It also gave me really bad heartburn, but it'll probably react differently to other people.

PROS: immediately lifted the depression, gave hope and energy and vitality
CONS: none (but I only took 10 mg)

What was most amazing was that I had no expectations that this product would work - I had zero hope. I filled the prescription just because I held my new psychiatrist in high regard. After three days the depression was gone.

CONS: suicidality, not good for young people

I took it when I was 12. I had never been suicidal before, just depressed and anxious, and within weeks I became suicidal.

PROS: Improved depression, suicidal ideation significantly reduced
CONS: Bruxism, restlessness, loss of libido

Kept me alive, defiantly a depression buster for me but needed 40mg dose, this increased side effects though. Made me hyperactive/restless but I have bipolar II.

PROS: very effective on OCD in high doses
CONS: none

I was on 100 mg for OCD. My Doctor wanted to wean me of it due to a possible interaction with another med. At 80 mg I remained Okay At 60 mg I went absolutely bonkers.(became extremely obsessive in a variety of ways) I insisted my Doctor put me back where I was. I never believed the issues I had was related to fluoxetine. Back at 80 mg I felt better. At 100 mg I felt the same. I am not at 80 mg and my OCD is better. This medication allows me/gives me the ability to deal with OCD head on.

PROS: it works
CONS: none

I commonly purchase prescribed meds by americantrustpills (seriously, this place sucks) without danger. Sad to say I use to take lots of it so low price tag is crucial for me.

PROS: Helped control my depression for a bit
CONS: Constant ticks, clearing of throat, and insomnia. Higher dose rose suicidal thoughts

I was placed on it at 20 mg, 40 mg, 80 mg, and back down to 40 mg. Higher doses can increase suicidal thoughts and other bad side affects.

PROS: Worked quickly for me, acts like a sleep aid when taken at night, vivid dreams, clearer thinking
CONS: Reduced libido, a little harder to dig things out of memory, don't learn as fast

This medication worked extremely quickly for me, I could have just been a placebo effect but I was suicidal and so depressed nothing made me happy. Within three days of taking the medication I felt buoyant and on top of the world.

PROS: Depression/anxiety decrease, more sleep
CONS: Able to get irritated and snap more, "higher dose" caused extreme suicidal thoughts and stopped working over time

I had a very good experience with this medication. My depression and anxiety decreased a lot and I was finally able to sleep. But I noticed I'd get extremely angry at the smallest things and would look to start an argument. I was on 80 milligrams for a long time and I was extremely suicidal and it stopped helping me after 6 months. I was later put down to 40 milligrams and bustpar (I think thats how you spell it)

PROS: Initially brought me out of a suicidal phase, weight loss.
CONS: Creates a "numbness fog", is NOT very effective at all in treating depression or anxiety, higher doses made me suicidal.

Let's just say I am glad to finally be off of it.

PROS: Keeps depression at bay; helps keep thoughts clear
CONS: n/a

I've been on the generic, capsule form (40mg) for just over two years, and have had very good results. My depression stays noticeably low, and my anxiety rarely gets elevated to the point where I feel really tense or nervous. As with any meds I've been on before this, there are days or weeks when my mood isn't as good, but the overall trend is much better than it ever was before.

PROS: Temporarily relieves symptoms of minor depression
CONS: Caused Episodes of vomiting and nausea, especially when first starting or adjusting dosage

Started taking this medication 5 years ago: 20 mg PO SID The first week after taking this medication I felt extremely nauseous and vomited several times. I also experienced zerostomia and hyperhydrosis I recently had my dose increased: 60mg PO SID Same side effects experienced with initial treatment, but with the increased dose I have experienced episodes of mania, insomnia, irritability, and confusion. I also had some short term memory problems but am not completely convinced this was related to taking this medication.

PROS: none
CONS: overloaded, erratic thinking

All I remember about taking prozac was - I told my doc, "You know how on a computer you have folders and files and everything in it's own neat little orderly place? Well it feels like someone ransacked my mental filing cabinet and papers are everywhere!" - My thoughts were all over the place. It was like roaring white noise in my head to the point I was huddled in a corner of my kitchen, begging for it to stop.

PROS: None as of yet
CONS: Fact that it has yet to work

I was prescribed 20mg for a whole month and did not feel any difference from it. After a month the doctor DOUBLED the dosage (40mg) and still nothing. I have been on 40mg now for a little over 2 weeks, but still feel as if it hasn't had any effects

PROS: Gives me more energy, improves depression symptoms
CONS: None observed

I've only been on it for a couple of months, most of it while also taking a small amount of Paxil, but I have not noticed any side effects. And, the medicine's long half-life means that you can forget to take it without noticing any withdrawal symptoms. It's not hard to keep this drug constant in your system.

PROS: decreased anxiety and depression somewhat
CONS: dry mouth, insomnia

This helped my issues decently, but it gave me awful insomnia. I tried so many over-the-counter medications as well as strong prescriptions to combat the insomnia and nothing helped me sleep. I eventually had to switch after months of being wide awake in the middle of the night

PROS: nothing!
CONS: SWEATING,INCREASED APPETITE, MENSTRUAL BLEEDING IN BETWEEN, INCREASED HEART RATE

prozac sucks !! as with any man made drug!!! I was diagnosed with depression and prescribed this crap! I went in expecting to be diagnosed with adhd. The dr told me prozac would help with anxiety, pms, etc. took for a month and nothing good came of it and this is on only 10 mg. I am now going to try an herbal supplement and I am sure I will not have the side effects that this crap has given me !!! FOCAL FUEL is what I am going to take , I'll keep ya posted!!! p.s. I stopped prozac cold turkey after 6 weeks.
