I just emailed the Dr. Phil show about my therapist exploitation experience.
I was able to add a link to the medical board decision that his license was revoked in two states. I told them I have a screen shot of the news article when he was arrested for having sex with another patient. I mentioned the criminal case. Didn’t mention the civil case. I want to know why he was not criminally prosecuted for any seven of us. I doubt my issue will be selected. I am not keen on being on TV, anyway. Mostly, I want people to know therapy does not include sex. I want something good to come out of the bad that happened to me. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know. |

If you want to hear my story (about my t's sexualizing therapy), pls. pm me...I have been struggling for years to confront him, but haven't gotten there yet. I need to do it...for me. Good for you!

I was growing Quora earlier and found out this info I had not heard before, it's interesting but disheartening, if it's true, I don't suspect he would do a show like this
Disciplinary Action against Phillip McGraw, Ph.D. __________________ Grief is the price you pay for love. |

We’ll see if I get a response or not. There are other opportunities for me to tell my story to help myself and others. I’m not sure what I would do if the show called because news/entertainment outlets can twist your words to meet their agenda. I would have to feel I was in a supported environment. |

I’m glad about this.
The fact I know his staff read it helps me feel heard- even if my experience is not selected. I didn’t expect anyone to get back to me so quickly. |

Initially I saw psychiatrist, Dr. B when I moved to that city. Dr. B hired AbusivePdoc.
I thought about writing to Dr. B to tell him how angry I feel, how could he hire a Pdoc like AbusivePdoc!!? If Dr. B would have vetted his candidates better and not hired AbusivePdoc...none of this would have happened!!!? I looked up Dr. B’s license. Dr. B’s medical license has been suspended since 2015. Wow..I've missed your post about Dr. Phil's staff contacting you. That's awesome!
My big questions would be Why doesn't the profession address this problem of client abuse in therapy? Why don't professionals take it seriously? Is this just a problem of some "bad apples" or is this a problem of the entire system? How come there is no training for professionals to work with people who were previously harmed in therapy? I wonder if it'd help if someone else contacted him as well. You know..the more people bring the issue to the surface, the better the chance is that it'd be taken seriously.. |

Great questions! Yes, it might help if more people contact him.
It’s still a current problem. Therapists are disciplined for this all the time...and that’s just the cases that are reported. Another question: Why don’t licensing boards have reciprocity between states? They don’t but they should! The only reason AbusivePdoc ‘s license in NY was revoked is because I contacted the medical board in New York and told them that his California license had been revoked. His NY license was revoked one year after his California license. He was allowed to ‘practice’ and had the ability to harm other clients at least one whole year after his California revocation! Many therapists have licenses in more than state. Why aren’t all practicing psychiatrists required to have malpractice insurance? I have several legal questions. This is a global problem..not just a problem in the U.S. Last edited by precaryous; Oct 29, 2018 at 04:46 PM.. |

Maybe there is reciprocity now? There wasn’t back in the mid 90’s. NY medical board didn’t know about AbusivePdoc ‘s license being revoked. I waited, hoping they would sanction him, too. But by almost a year later, they still hadn’t. That’s when I contacted them.
Maybe different boards have reciprocity and others don’t? |

I think, that's exactly the case. As I understand, there is no federal law about this, and so the states take it upon themselves to make a reciprocity agreements among themselves about mirroring the disciplinary actions against professionals. Some states do it, some don't. And so, some states may have such agreements with several other states, but not with all the states. And some states may have no agreements with any of the states. It works on a voluntary basis, as I understand.
I think, this is wrong. There should be a federal law that automatically prohibits a professional to practice anywhere in the country if they were disciplined in just one state. But then we'll have to get into all the other political stuff about the states independence and so on.. |
