First off, it's too expensive. The cost alone is almost the total of a minimum wage salary in our country (though I'm the only one who sees that as a problem). Secondly, I've lost trust in this kind of medicine after years of seroquel medication that might as well have wasted my time and worsen my condition. I gained 30 kilos over the years for being so passive and clueless for my well-being.
After experiencing my first breakdown, it spiraled for more. The last straw was me having a panic attack in our own home, and before that even happened I already lost the untainted opinion of my family and friends. My condition hindered the few relationships that I have. Right now, I'm only agreeing to be medicated for the sanity and comfort of my family, even if I am opposed to it. It's never an easy subject bringing this up to my parents. In the end, I have to submit for the sake of stability in our household. I know I should take this up to my doctor but I can only see her for 3 to 4 meetings a year, and we don't have a lot of time talking then. At this point I'm begging for advice, so what should I do? __________________ Don't cha wish your girlfriend was. Hot. Like. Me. |

Try to get a second opinion. Also, there are other antipsychotic medications. My son has not got along with sustenna. Within the past 5 months both of my sons have tried between them, latuda, seroquel, invega, risperadol, sustenna and saphris and have had haldol shots. Saphris 15 mg helped stop the psychosis in the younger son, he now takes lamictal. The older one has been psychotic for three months after an extreme manic event. Risperadol and two shots of sustenna did not work. He had a genetic test completed and is taking 120 mg of latuda, unfortunately the hosptital has thrown in 200 mg of wellbutrin and this is not helping the psychosis. There are several options with medications, some are cheaper than others. Also, only seeing your doctor (I assume a psychiatrist) for 3 or 4 times a year does not seem like enough when you are trying to sort out you medications. I hope you are having therapy too! Good Luck!
