Hi
I'm a member but haven't been active for a while. I was looking for some information. I have been on Seroquel for half a year and before that Clozaril. the Seroquel gave me horrible side effects. I would sleep until 4pm eat some dinner, feed the cats and go back to bed watching Netflix. I kept leaning to the left severely and couldn't control it, had massive headaches. Couldn't keep my balance walking particularly at night and getting up in the morning, was hallucinating really badly, and my mood swings (though I am on Depakote and Lamictal). So I called in to my doctors nurse and told her my situation and by Friday had a new prescription for Zyprexa. Now that I am on it I feel pretty good. I'm sleeping better with no nightmares, have my balance back and my mood swings and burst of anger, rage, under control but am having bouts of crying; like I'm depressed but that isn't me. I'm a manic person that also takes about 2-3 Klonopin a day. What I want to know is those of you on it can you give me some long term results... the pros and cons. I haven't read much up on it and I know with most antipsychotics weight gain is terrible and I already eat enough junk food. I'm also lonely and would like a pen pal with SZA also. You can read my profile but the med list has changed a lot since then and haven't had time to update it. Thanks everybody. Enjoy your week. __________________ DX: schizoaffective bipolar type, panic disorder, ocd, depression, night terrors, seizure disorder. Like all APs your probably going to get one side effect or another. Personally, I have not experienced severe weight gain if any on this med. It is hard to lose but I try to eat healthy.
This med makes me groggy in the morning and tired most the day. I have slight tremor in my hand occasionally on higher doses. The sleep is great. I just wish I felt more awake during the day. And I haven't had any delusions for a long time. |

I have to say be careful with Zyprexa. It made me gain about 90 lbs. However, everyone's body is different. I was very skinny to begin with. I lost 40 lbs that I've gained so far. When I had bad symptoms, antipsychotics were good. I found if my symptoms aren't severe, they hinder me more like especially with the sedation. It's hard to get up in the morning from them, and I'm about to start college. I manage my symptoms by managing my stress now. I got rid of a extremely big stressor in my life and that has helped me A LOT. Stress is very important to manage. I say if a medicine is helping, go for it. Everyone has different ways of treatments because each chemical I'm balance is different. Make sure to take medicine at same times every day. I found another helpful thing is to try to make a routine. Kinda push yourself to do things. Force yourself to socialize as well even though it's anxiety fueled because isolation makes things worse. Everything is easier said than done. It took me awhile to get where I'm at. There are times I'll still get out of order and weird, but I just keep on. I do take medicine, but not an antipsychotic at the moment.

I hear you as you list your symptoms. SZA crept up on me and then burst out as full-formed voices. Things went downhill from there. I have tried a number of drugs, with limited success; currently I am on olanzapine, which seems to be reducing some of the worst symptoms. My psychiatrist seems to think that with the right medicine I can get rid of all the symptoms, but I've been sick for 12 years now, and sometimes it's better and sometimes it's worse. Good luck to you as you fight your illness, and I hope you get rid of it completely.

I was on Zyprexa for about five months after getting off clozaril due to weight gain, it worked really well for psychotic stuff but I gained a lot of weight and it gave me high cholesterol so I switched to Geodon recently which is helping but not as much.
