Hello jacelove: I see this is your first post here on PC. Welcome to Psych Central.

I can't tell you what is causing your random suicidal feelings. I could, perhaps, offer some off-handed speculations. But, realistically, they would be nothing more than guesses on my part. And they would be as likely to be wrong as they are correct. (Perhaps other PC members will have some insights they'll wish to share.) However here are links to 2 articles, from Psych Central's archives, that may offer some possible clues as well as some suggestions regarding how to handle your suicidal thoughts:

How Suicidal Thoughts Can Become a Coping Mechanism

How to Survive Suicidal Thoughts

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.

Hi. Sometimes the same thing happens to me and I don't know why. Other times, I know it's my depression, but sometimes it's out of the blue and doesn't seem to have a cause. Do you have a safety plan in place in case you don't feel safe? HUGS Kit

No. What are some ideas for a safety plan?

Sometimes it just seems to be best solution to the current issue at hand but if you got safety net in place and realize its only a temporary feeling then you will be alright!

Do you have some resources when this happens? Such as calling suicide hotline just to chat with a counselor. DO you see a therapist you can share these concerns with so that you two can come up with a crisis/safety plan? What are some coping skills or distractions to take to get through the thoughts?

I get it. I get them too. SOmetimes Im not even depressed!

Yeah, I've dealt with this for a long time -- and it's upsetting to me still that I have thoughts about it -- even though I'm in a relatively better place now.

I would encourage you to think of some coping skills, whether on your own, or with a therapist (if you see one), that you can use when you get those thoughts.

They're tough to deal with, but you can get through them! And, yeah, I think calling a crisis hotline is an excellent idea, too, when you have those thoughts.
