Default Is it abnormal to hear voices from time to time but not every day?

I sometimes hear voices but they can be random. They worsen when I'm stressed but I don't hear them all the time. I know I have that condition where you hear loud noises or brain synapse crash type sounds in your brain after I start to wake up but try to go back to sleep, I don't know if that's related to hearing my voices sometimes.

with some people yes its normal and with others its not so normal. to find out if its normal for you to hear voices you will need to contact your treatment providers who can answer that for you based on what your own medical and mental health history is, the meds you may be on and other things too.

Hi HappyCheeks. I don't really believe that there is such a thing as "normal." We're all so different! If you are concerned about it, perhaps see a doctor / psychiatrist. But if it doesn't really bother you and you've got a hold on it, I say, it's no big deal.

There are people called voice hearers who can be normal....usually they just hear voices but lack other things like delusions.

Ive started keeping a journal. I hear voices 3/8s of the time. And I see things about 1/4 of the time.

And this isnt like- when I DO hear voices and see things- they are on and off. These are just the periods when these symptoms happen. Ill hear a voice. Then there will be a few minutes when I dont. And then Ill hear something else- music- or something. And then there will be nothing.

So really I maybe only experience like 10 minutes a day on average of active hallucinaitons.

I hope thats not as hard to understand as I fear it might be. And also. Im schizoaffective over schizophrenic- but definitely my symtpms are NOT all the time.

My voices are sometimes worse, sometimes better. And like you, stress triggers my voices more. However mind you that is when I am on a pretty heavy medication regimen. But everyone’s experience is different. It’s not one specific experience for all, or what is normal versus not.

Auditory and visual hallucinations can come and go for some people; especially if a person is on a good regiment of medication. The trick is finding the cocktail of medications that works. I used to have auditory hallucinations all the time, with periods of visual hallucinations as well. Now, I am on a good mix of medication that seems to work. I still occasionally have hallucinations, but they are not as frequent as long as I am on my medication.
