I have experienced psychosis other than hypnagogic hallucinations before, but one day woke up to voices. Perhaps this isn't the right forum if they are hypnagogic hallucinations however since I have prior experience of psychosis maybe it is, idk. But, anyway, woke up to voices once, and I don't know if this is psychosis or hypnagogic hallucinations, or both, or whatever.

I don't have much knowledge of hypnagogic hallucinations and hoping someone may be able to tell me more... I did not use substances the day of the auditory hallucination and went to sleep earlier than I usually do. The date of the supposed auditory hallucination/hypnagogic was about a month ago, hasn't happened since.

Obviously, none of you were with me when this happened, so you can't tell me whether it was hypnagogic or psychosis (whether they're the same thing or different, I don't know much about) but maybe hoping someone can provide me insight. Thanks.

I have had hypnagogic hallucinations before not related to psychosis experiences, sometimes I would see massive spiders walking around like dreaming while my eyes were open when I was semi awake.

Those types of hallucinations that happen while we are falling asleep or waking up are not that uncommon in the general population. David Hufford wrote a really interesting book about sleep paralysis and there was a really interesting YouTube video where he describes it. I remember him saying normally if a person would describe their experience to a psychiatrist they maybe misdiagnosed as psychotic.
I have experience both myself, and there are some similar characteristics in the hallucinations, but they are two different things.
When they do happen they can be kind of frightening but just try and think to yourself ( well that was interesting )
I think it was Emerson that said, knowledge is the antidote for fear.
