Antipsychotics cause antagonism of a lot of receptors in the brain. This leads to less neuroplasticity. Agonism of especially serotonin (5HT)2A receptors causes neurogenesis because the brain is connecting more (Psychedelics or natural schizophrenia). The product of schizophrenia however is that it all regulates glutamate (Negative symptoms) and dopamine (Positive symptoms). Remember, serotonin is the happy chemical.

If you need to be on a really high dose of antipsychotic, short term is best because antipsychotics cause brain entropy and loss of grey matter (Whatever that means. Maybe negative symptoms of schizophrenia cause the same thing because you're less motivated to do things due to lack of pleasure from too much dopamine).

But eventually you lower it down to a dose where you can manage side effects and keep you on a stable level to prevent too much loss of brain connectivity.

I am no expert. And you may chose to ignore me because I don't even know anything. I'm just doing what I think is right for my brain and what a psychiatrists goal is (I think..)

Yeah, I was on the highest dose on invega sustenna and developed TD. It went away after getting off it. I take other APs now and am doing well but I often worry about getting dementia when I get older cause my memory is so bad even now at a young age

I think you're right about psychiatrists, good ones try not to over-medicate people and keep them at the lowest dose (which varies for individuals) or least amount of meds that manages their symptoms without too many side effects

Definitely ideal to be on the lowest possible dose. I'm having adverse effects from zyprexa and depakote and my old pdoc wouldn't let me lower the dose out of fear of my symptoms returning. Hopefully the new one will and just raise the dose again in case my symptoms do return. I worry a lot about long term effects on the doses I'm on now.

i have been on APs sense i was 19. Back then it was thorazine and haldol and they force fed it till your symptoms went away and you were reduced to rubble. Today i am still on APs and am not a slurring, drooling, shuffling mess that once was. Thing is APs are always going to be part of my life it looks like, my medical team and I talk often and raise or lower them to deal with everything.
If you need them you need them. but if it makes your life worse you have to tell the doctor that its not working. Someday there will be real new meds for us instead of the copy cats we still have now.

I definitely worry about having memory issues or dementia or something later in life due to APs. But on the other hand, I don't think I would be alive without it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't

I noticed that when I worked with my doc to lower my Seroquel dosage, my brain function improved. I was less "slow" in terms of thinking.

I think it's different for different people. Because some people do have to remain on antipsychotics for a very long time. The best thing to do is to listen to your doctor, provided you have one that you trust.

Oh and also, I am pretty sure that psychosis as a mind state is far worse than the mind state I am in now when I am taking antipsychotics. So I prefer taking antipsychotics.

I realize others may have different opinions.
