Somebody I know is trying to lose weight but can't do it while still on antipsychotics. They say the weight might come off a bit then just stall at a certain weight despite continued calorie restriction.
Is this typical for antipsychotics? Why, is it a side effect or what? (How is it even possible that calorie restriction wouldn't work?) What is your experience (while still on them)?

Antipsychotics are a pain and usually cause weight gain. I'm trying to stay weight neutral after gaining a lot of weight on antipsychotics and that is hard enough.

This is typical imo....but too much calorie restriction causes your body to enter starvation mode so weight loss is incredibly slow. The mechanism for APs is a change in the microbial flora to a weight gain flora and no probiotics won’t help, but prebiotic might. I do best on a mostly vegetarian diet.

I was on abilify and lost all the weight i gained on olzanapine. But I wish to sleep more then 4hours a night so I went back on olzanapine. I figured there is no happy medium but a lot of meds out there not just APs cause weight gain. If science was to make drugs more weight neutral maybe more people would sponsor this.
