22 years old Argentinian male here. I am currently taking Sertraline (Asertra) 500 mg and Risperidone (1 g) twice a day for 4 months. I have always been a bit introspective, I wasn't going out with friends every weekend, I played Rugby untill I entered Medicine School. I was very responsible and committed to the sport, but I didn't make any friends. I entered the Medicine School here, which is something really hard -just about the 10% enter each year- but after 2 years I left Medicine classes. I returned to Medicine School after (the past year and the last year) but I left again. This year I also returned, but then left. In June/July I went to see a psychiatrist in Buenos Aires. My parents took me there because they were worried about my behaviour - I couldn't stand still, I would go at 11 PM to my grandma's house worried about her because she was lonely and the world left her-. When I went to Buenos Aires, was the point I behaved the most strange: I thought I was some kind of Jesus Christ, or Messiah, that could read everyone's mind and solve their problems. That's when I started taking Risperidone and Sertraline. The Doctor there said I have and OCD.
Since I went to Buenos Aires JI continued thinking that I was the saviour of mankind, that I could read other people's thoughts, that the journalists on TV were sending ME messages - talking to me-, that people walking around were saying random words that actually were sent to me, and pseudohallucinations -very little, and very brief shapes that I could recognize as not real, in contrast with the other thoughts that I firmly believed. I've been getting better ever since. I am more quiet and I behave more "normally". Currently I am thinking I am the next president of my country, sometimes even the next ruler of the world. So I am living with this thoughts. My pschyatrist and my psychologist diagnosed me an OCD, but I think I may have schizophrenia, because of my current disconnection with reality, and my delusive thoughts. Also my lack of connection with other people -e.g. friends- with I think it's due to depression and/or anhedonia. Last edited by CANDC; Nov 02, 2019 at 11:30 PM.. Reason: Remove doctor's name |

No one here is a psychiatrist or psychologist who can diagnose you. Psychosis is a broad disorder from delusional disorder and bipolar with psychosis all the was to schizoaffective and schizophrenia. Plus there is a difference between knowing the thoughts aren’t true. Normally you don’t know they’re delusions unless youre on meds, which you are but did you realize before.? If you know you’re really not Jesus it could be more in line with ocd where you’re having thoughts beyond your control. Personally I would trust my docs opinion over some person on the Internet.

Did you try to bring up these concerns with the psychiatrist?

Hello Marcelopm: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.
We here on PC cannot offer mental health diagnoses. So we can't tell you whether or not what you are experiencing may be schizophrenia. Perhaps, though, since you have some concerns regarding the diagnosis your current providers are giving you, a second opinion from another mental health professional would be in order? One thing you can do, here on PC, is to take some of the quizzes & tests that are on offer. There's a link to them in the banner at the top of the page. However here's another link as well: Psychological Quizzes and Tests And then here are links to 3 articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of schizophrenia by our host Dr. John Grohol, Psy.D.: Schizophrenia Guide: Symptoms, Treatment & More | Psych Central Top 10 Signs of Schizophrenia | Psych Central Schizophrenia Guide | Psych Central I hope you find PC to be of benefit. __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go."
