I have those crazy eyes where the whites are on top and pupil in middle, and flat affect. I take my medications and feel like they help me function normally, but think my crazy "look" is a barrier for me, to connect and fit into society, I am nice and calm, not shy but I think people are put off by my crazy "look".
Why is this "look" common trait with mentally ill people, not everyone has it, but I do and I hate it, it's even on my drivers license, that wide eyed stare.
I finally feel "normal" on medications most of the time, but don't look it in my face.

Hi Pokadots,

I read your post with great interest.

The expression "flat affect" is something I know a bit about, but I have not heard the expression "crazy eyes.". I will have to find out what it means [beyond the obvious.]

It is really unfortunate that people are pre-judging you without getting to know you first. That has happened to me too for different reasons.

I hate that people make such easy judgments--and we know this happens. I've seen references to facial expressions and gaze in the psychiatric literature, so I now some experts find this. But I also know that non-professionals--just people in our everyday lives--are quick to make negative judgments based on small 'abnormalities' that might mean nothing at all.
This must be hard for you, polkadots, when you know your meds are doing the jb you want them to. Hang in there.
Many hugs.

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Possibly focus on getting to know people better, and work on just ignoring those who won't give you a chance because of some physical flaw that you can't do anything about.

Your true self will shine through pretty quickly!

Hi,
Can you tell me about the "flat affect" I only know it's a negative symptom of some mental disorders, but don't know how to get rid of it. "crazy eyes" is a intense stare with wide eyes some mental patients like myself have.
Like in these pictures.
why do I have crazy eyes and flat affect?

I had a blood test last year for everything and was normal, I think they tested for thyroid as well.
