I hate that. Does anyone else get upset about this? It especially upsets me because I love guns and have always been fascinated by them and even wanted to collect them, but now that I've been committed 4 times involuntarily for over 72 hours, my gun rights are all gone. Since I'm a prohibited person that means that if I were ever caught with one I'd be given a life sentence for it. I can still buy antique guns, which are basically muzzleloaders or guns that use a cartridge that is no longer manufactured. I might buy a pinfire or teatfire revolver for protection, but it really sucks that I don't have any rights as a human being. This has been on my mind for a while and it really saddens me. I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and am going to be on medication for the rest of my life, I might as well

Hi my gun rights are not just gone. They actually fined me and almost jailed for filling out a BACK ground check. I have more but I'm to depressed.

Please don't kill yourself. That's one reason why "they" don't think we should have guns. It's bothered me, too. I'm not a gun person, but I think I should be allowed to own one.

ChargedInfluence, I am glad you do not have a gun. And I hope you are in a safe place. I had a brother once, and I wish he never had a gun, if he hadn't, I would probably still have him. Stay with us. Let us stay with you.

Hi @ChargedInfluence, I'm sorry being hospitalized has taken away something that you loved. But I am seriously worried about you and your safety and welfare along with the safety and welfare of others you mentioned. Can you call a hotline, or your therapist or psychiatrist if you have one? If not, can you please go to the ER? I know that hospitals haven't been your friend, and I've been in one so I know, they suck, but right now you may need a little more care than we can provide for you over the internet. I have Schizoaffective Disorder so I understand how upsetting it is to know it's a lifetime illness with long term treatment, but I do think we can get to a point of stability where the hospital isn't needed so much. Give yourself this time. Talk here all you want. There are people who are listening. Gentle hugs if wanted Kit

Have you posted in the schizophrenia forum? They can tell you their experiences. I know schizophrenia can be treated and people can do well.
I can understand your anger at the people who abused you. We also have forums where you can talk to other people who have gone through that. I don't suggest you have a gun now. Please, please don't hurt yourself. We care and want to see you better. Okay? I have bipolar, which is a life-long disorder, but I am stable on meds now.. |

Schizophrenia, doesn't have to mean a life time of suffering. I met a woman with schizophrenia when I was in transitional housing. We got along and eventually decided to rent an apartment together. At first she had a little trouble managing, but then she got on a new med, and it was like her life changed over night. She found a job, got off disability, and eventually moved into her own apartment. I'm still in touch with her and she's doing great. The only reminder in her life that she has it, is she has to see her psychiatrist once a month, and take her med every day. For what it's worth, I'm on more meds than she is.

Safety of others, and your safety, trumps your rights to have guns around. If you comply with meds and follow doctors orders, you could have a good life. Stay safe

I'm not sure about these genetic tests. I think you actually need to try some other meds.

I agree with travelinglady, genetic tests should not be relied on as a sole diagnostic tool. Many people have to try different medications before they find one that works for them. And sometimes it can be a combination of meds.

Yes, it took awhile for the docs to find the best meds for me.

I'm so upset because of what happened earlier. I feel very murderous right now. I'm tired of everyone stepping on my toes. I'm still angry about it at how I said nothing back because he was much bigger than me and I didn't want to risk serious injury. I'm so ****ing angry right now. I feel like a pushover for all the years of bullying and torment I've been through. Now I know what Elliot Rodger went through and what made him snap. I feel that way, and I've felt that way since I was 13. Just a general hatred for humanity and society in general. I hate everyone.
