Hi,

I have a few questions. I have been schophrenic for about 5.5 years. I had had many types of hallucinations in the early days, and delusions. Eventually I quashed the delusions, but internal verbal hallucinations continued.

Flash forward, and my hallucications have stopped abruptly, which is good, but weird. I'm expecting them to pop back at any time, but I'm enjoying the relief.

Now, I'm going through a series of things:
- getting used to not hearing and refuting voices
- getting used to having spare time to think for myself
- getting used to feeling settled and hopeful
- and now getting used to feeling happy

This all sounds good, but it is unsettling. And I'm worried that I will go manic. I certainly don't feel manic at the moment, just settled. Actually I have not been manic before but get the impression one would start to feel incredibly possible and like they can achieve anything.

I am wondering if anyone has insight of what I should expect after stopping hearing voices? Is what I'm going through in reaction to stopping hearing voices normal? What can I look out for to detect going manic?

For info I am asking my care providers for help too.

Thanks,

Hopeful and happy for the first time since I can remember

I barely know what to say. I have voices. I dream of having my mental privacy. But if the voices were to completely disappear, I think I would miss them sometimes. It would feel weird, having a quiet mind, even though I yearn for that most of the time. Good luck with this! I hope it works out for you.

I only had voices while manic so they don’t think they disappear with mania. If you’re on medication, it may be that the meds took a long time to work...they sometimes do.

Mine stopped with meds, it's great to feel sane. I don't really worry too much about them coming back. I just live my life.

Yeah, at the moment it is impossible to tell what triggered it. I did go though a different type of therapy treatment at the time, but I'm a sample size of 1. Literally impossible to know, scientifically, why it has happened.

Over the years I've been on Seroquel, Olanzapin, Latuda and Risperidal, all still as psychotic as ever when on each of them. I had kind of given up on not being psychotic.
