Question Could I be hearing voices?

Hi, so I was wondering if itís possible to hear voices, but them be in your voice. I have depression and social anxiety, but sometimes in my mind I hear things, telling me Iím stupid or ugly or fat, even telling me to like rearrange things, but itís all in my voice, so I donít know if itís just me saying these things to myself or if I am just making them up or something. One time I even thought/heard/felt like I needed to stab my dog, and that's something I would never want to do, I love my dog to pieces and it kinda scares me that I would think of this. I also feel like I need to hurt myself, however this is probably from, my depression. I mean I have always hated myself and felt like I deserve to feel pain or be hurt. If anyone knows if voices can be in your own voice, or if it is just other peoples voices, I would love to know Also if you have ever experienced anything like that I would be grateful to hear about it.... Thanks

Do you hear your own voice inside of your head or outside of your head?

This kind of reminds me of intrusive thoughts or thought insertion... Both of those can go with a lot of things, including something like OCD or some kind of mild psychosis if it's thought insertion. Are you seeing a therapist and/or a psychiatrist? I can only make guesses based on what you wrote and I'm no professional, if this is bothering you enough which it seems it is I would recommend that you speak to a competent mental health professional about the matter.

Do these same kinds of thoughts repeat in your head throughout the day, sounding like your voice is telling you these things?

I think it's certainly possible to hear a voice that sounds like your own voice, but that's just my non medical opinion.

Best regards to you!

I hear them inside my head. I am seeing a psychiatrist every few months, but that's really it. Ya they do repeat in my head throughout the day, kinda like it's my voice telling me these things.
Thanks for your opinion

I agree with Atypical_Disaster that it sounds more like intrusive thoughts than voices. I've experienced both and, at least for me, they are very different things. When I have heard voices, they definitely have the feeling of "not coming from me" - where as intrusive thoughts are ideas that form that I can't stop thinking about or that repeat over and over.

If you feel something (whether it is a voice or an intrusive thought) telling you to harm yourself, someone else, or an animal, you should definitely talk to a therapist about it. If for no other reason than to just get an outside non-biased opinion on the matter (and to make sure that you are safe).
