Hello,
I'm new here, and I just had two questions.

I was recently diagnosed with Schizotypal personality disorder, and I was wondering...

Is Schizotypal personality disorder associated with cognitive problems, like the similar disorders of the Schizoaffective and Schizophrenia nature?

My second question is, is depression a core and unalterable part of Schizotypal personality disorder?

Thank you!

Hello GeneticExaltation: I cannot comment with regard to your questions. From my perspective these questions need to be addressed by the mental health professionals you're seeing. Perhaps other members here on PC, who have also received this diagnosis, will be able to share their experiences with you.

I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

I have Schizotypal and I have foggy days and super sharp days. I don't think it is directly related to the Schizotypal since that is the description of a set of traits in your personality, and not an affliction like Bipolar or Depression.
I think my diet and the depressive part of my Bipolar type II can cause me to get foggy mentally.
But don't let any diagnosis hold you back. There are so many highly successful people that have all kinds of brain cooties. You can do anything you want to do.
