Default Happy Place

Hi all.

I'm currently taking a class called Happiness. It fulfills a humanities requirement and I thought, why not?

It's a combination of Buddhist philosophies and positive psychology that many people believe it is a life skill that everyone should be able to learn and apply to their lives. I thought it could be beneficial for me.

I am struggling with the concept of "happy place". I have an assignment to describe my happy place. From what I've seen in media and read in books, it's described as some place you imagine in your mind and it supposedly brings you peace. I'm sure most of you know what it is.

Now, the question is do you all have a happy place that you imagine and it makes your overall mood better? It sounds a little depressing to me. Imagining a place that you can't physically be, it sounds depressing rather than happy. I've been polling with random people on whether just imagining it is good enough or would you have to physically go to your happy place for you to feel at peace and happy?

Hi! I never used this happy place technique, but if imagining a place you can't reach makes you sad, you probably shouldn't use this for feeling better. Maybe you could imagine a place where you can go later, if not immediately, like your room or another place that is quite easy to reach? So, you'll know that as soon as you can you'll go there.
Also, now that I'm writing I'm thinking that one of the places I could use as my happy place could be PC Maybe it could be also yours?

I do not have a happy place that I imagine. Though there are lots of things that make me happy, and one of them could be considered a "happy place" type thing. I reminisce. I think of a happy time(s) in my life. It helps to journal it out. On that note, some types of journaling make me really happy. Like gratitude journaling.

Sometimes when I meditate, I imagine the ocean. Maybe the ocean is my happy place. It certainly is a wonderful place.

Your class sounds really cool, Ohmydaisy!

It very well be that the ocean is your happy place! I do crave the ocean and beaches from time to time (I've moved to another state where there are no beaches to enjoy).

I'm hoping that the class will help learn to change my mind pathways into achieving happiness. On that hope side, I was intrigued and thought the idea of the class is neat too! I'm hoping my skepticism won't override it lol.
