Default Unable to put in effort in school

I'm unable of doing the homework I'm supposed to do and study for exams, most of the times I've done one of that things it's because I've done it in class, when I'm at home the only thing I never think of doing is studying or doing my homework. However, even without studying and just paying attention in class, I'm able of approving, but there are, however, some subjects which I'm unable to approve, even when I study.

Teachers have said many times that they feel I've got no interest in anything (which is somewhat true, I feel like it doesn't matter how much and what I study, since I will still have bad jobs and change everytime of job because of boredom, feeling sick of it or getting fired). I have even thought of stopping studying. I don't know if this has something to do with the fact of being unable to work and even sometimes pay attention at school. I go to an academy to help me with the most difficult subjects for me.

I don't know if it's laziness, lack of motivation and/or interest, pessimism (since I feel like I'm not going to approve) or the fact that I find it pretty pointless. In this case, I think it's more a lack of motivation and interest, since everytime I start a project I'm unable of finishing it. For example, I've started writing around 6 books, after a day I've never continued writing them, even if I'm interested in, I have no motivation in doing it.

I don't really care at all about the reason why it's too hard for me to work, but I really want to find a solution. People tend to say I'm stupid for not approving an exam that's part of a system that values memory over intelligence, capacity and effort of the students. In my country exists the "Compulsory Secondary Education" (ESO in spanish), which is from 12-16 ages and then voluntary degrees. Before it, exists primary education which is from 7-12 ages. In my primary education school we worked through projects, every trimester we had a new project to focus on and there were no exams, qualifications were giving according to the effort and capacity of the student (and others, such as attitude). I never made homework too, but still I learnt and spent a better time there, and I guess it's one of the reasons why I can't focus on exams-based systems and such.

I'm so sorry you're struggling, dannypk16 I know how you feel. I'm struggling with studying as well. I've also lost interest in many things pretty quickly. You're definitely not alone in this. From what you wrote, do you think you may be suffering from depression? I think it's worth looking into it, especially if it's bothering you so much. I'd suggesto to go to a doctor and get a proper diagnosis. If you do have depression, you'll be able to get the help you need. Do you see a therapist? Maybe that could help. Even if you don't have depression, it could be useful to understand why you're feeling this way and what to do to work on it. I'm so sorry, please don't give up. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this

Haven't been "depressed" for 2 years, and the last and only time I've been it only lasted a week. I thought of going to therapy, but at this moment it's kinda difficult. Thanks for your answer!

I noticed you put the word depressed in quotes. I don't know what you think of when you consider the word depression. In my case, my mind tends to automatically go to the idea of staying in bed all day with one's head under the covers. But there's more to depression than that. Men in particular tend to act differently when they're depressed. I tend to score high on tests for depression. But I get out of bed every day, get cleaned up, & do whatever I need to do. Sometimes I do even more than I needed to. Here are links to 3 articles, from PC's archives, that (hopefully) may help to shed some light on this subject. The first is by DocJohn:

My idea of depression is lack of motivation, loss of interest in things you like and enjoy, [severe] sadness, and other symptoms that may vary depending on your situation and the things that caused your depression. And I did put the word in quotes because I don't think I was really depressed, at least no based on what I said before, but I don't find any other word to describe it better than depression. Also, the fact of only lasting one week makes me think it wasn't depression. Nowadays I rarely feel sadness at all, so I don't either feel depression, and if I suffer some symptoms of depression it may be for other reasons (such as, for example, a mental disorder).
