Unhappy Increasingly hard

School is extremely hard to the point where I'd rather end my life than get out of bed and do it every day. I believe I have the option to drop out, but I doubt my parents would support me in this decision. Does anyone have any advice on getting my motivation back up and doing better in school? Thanks.

I am sorry that you are struggling. Perhaps re-consider your options as far as your life path goes. Pursuing education may not be right at this point in your life. I bet you would rather go after a life goal that motivates you to do something that you really want to do.

Just my opinion. Have you talked to anyone about this?

Yes I have, perhaps I’ll think about dropping out and getting my GED. Thank you

I'm so sorry, sadveiledbride I know how you feel. I'm struggling with my studies as well. Please don't give up. Are you going to university right now? What would you like to do with your life? I think you need to talk to your parents about this. Make them understand how you feel about this and what would you really like to do. I think that would be the best option for you. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Remember that we're here for you. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

I didnt realize this was a high school thing and not higher ed. Please consider alternative school or another type of school for someone with emotional issues. I know you think a GED is an equivalent but its not. My daughter ran away last March and stopped going to school with the same thought process. She had stopped her bipolar meds and gotten involved in partying. She had moved in with this girl who's mother was ok with her daughter and mine doing these things. She almost didnt graduate. She came home after they kicked her our and went inpatient. She managed to power through all the work that was left and graduated this past December. Now that she has clarity she is SO thankful she didn't quit. And she could have because she was 18. I know a GED sounds good and you might find slanted info online that it is but I promise you-if you ever think you may want to go further in any way with your education- its not so easy without a diploma. And complacency is so easy to fall into once the ball is in your court. You may think its "just a test" and put it off. Its a lot harder to go back to it once you do not have a requirement to do it. And it is not an easy test to pass.

Oh SadVeiledBride, I am so sorry you are feeling awful I've been there! This does not sound like a motivation issue to me. It sounds like you need prompt help with managing depression. Have you been diagnosed? Are you receiving any therapy? Generally it is not a good idea to make major life decisions while we are severely depressed...correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you are currently severely depressed. Of course trying to study on top of that would feel awful for you. You certainly may need a break while you receive some therapy but I would encourage you to hold off a while from making big decisions about your education. You are not currently in higher ed, do I have that right? You are a minor in high school...did I understand correctly?

Please talk to your local doctor, with or without your parents, about a referral to a child psychologist who specializes in depression. If you ever feel overwhelmed by suicidal ideation, or start to develop a plan, please seek urgent care at the hospital or call a depression crisis line.

I wish you peace and a bright future! You deserve it!
