@shakespeare47 I have around a year and three months left. Not too bad. I am doing it in a foreign country (Argentina) though, so that's proving stressful. I would say the experience has been rewarding.

Dang. That's awesome! I know it's stressful, but I hope you're having some good times as well.

What's the best thing about living in Argentina? The food? The sights?

We flew out to Denver in late June and visited family in Silverthorne. Arapahoe was still open- and intended to stay open until July 1st. We also visited Garden of the Gods and saw the cliff dwellings in Manitou.

@shakespeare47

Argentina is great. The economy isn't wonderful right now but I don't think that's the case anywhere (though I honestly don't know).

My favorite thing about it is the language and the people. I like the culture here.

Also, yeah, there are some wonderful places to visit in Colorado! That's interesting, I actually like to ski up in that area you visited as well.

And, yeah, I have been having a good time down here, generally speaking. It is stressful to adapt to a new culture and country but I like it a lot.

I am set to begin my master's in speech-language pathology really soon, although I am having second thoughts about it right now.

@skibum801
It is very cool that you are studying translation in Argentina! I got my bachelor's in Spanish and studied abroad in Rosario for a month in 2016. What area of Argentina are you in?

I'm doing my Masters in Clinical and Experimental Linguistics at a University in Germany. I will also admit that it's been pretty hard studying in a foreign country particularly because I never feel like my German is good enough to deal with therapy and doctors' appointments and English-speaking specialists are hard to find. Also they don't have HIPAA here so even basic things like accommodations at your university are different. For example, I would have to disclose the nature of my illness to each individual professor in order to get accommodations for it. I don't really want to do this because these are the same profs writing my rec letters for a possible PhD. Because of this, and since I haven't been doing great lately, I now have to spend an extra semester finishing up my degree.

Given all of that, I am really glad that I did this program. It gave me the opportunity to finally get some distance from my family and actually learn to be more independent. It was just bad timing for me because I was diagnosed 2 months before I moved to another country, so I had to learn how to deal with my illness while not being super comfortable with the language.

I already have a masters but I'm starting a phd program in a year. Should take me about 3 years to complete. But it's a little bit of an unusual circumstance that will allow me to finish it quickly.

@whompingwillow

Nice, I have a bachelor's in Spanish as well (in addition to a bachelor's in philosophy).

I'm in Buenos Aires. It's where I studied abroad in 2017, additionally.

So cool that you studied in Rosario, as well!

Yup master's degree in physics education. Done with the physics part, now working on the education part. Really excited to become a physics teacher, and have enough experience to know that is what I want to be, but the assignements I have to do to get my certification are killing me.

I have my Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling. I am starting my license hours now so I can do clinical counseling. Need 3000 hours to qualify for my state license plus I have to meet with a counseling supervisor once a week. Anxious about the time and financial commitment here on top of my job but I know it'll be worth it! End goal is to provide equine assisted therapy. *fingers crossed*

That is just way cool. I'm impressed.
